Thinking about buying a 2002 trailblazer LXT. It has 149,000 miles on it. Took it for a very long test drive. It ran wonderful but check engine light came on. Made a stop a Auto zone and they said it was a timing cam positioning fault. I have no idea what that means and neither did they. Is this a serious problem? Should I not buy this vechicle? And is it expensive to fix? Thanks

This has variable valve timing. The VVT is run by oil pressure. A code can be the wrong viscosity oil, oil sludge or a bad VVT mechanism. The only way I'd even think about this vehicle is after it's been inspected by a mechanic. Skip that you you buy this vehicle at your own risk.

SOURCE: 2002 Chevy Trailblazer Engine Codes

This is actually an easy swap out. Remove the electrical connection, remove the retaining bolt and pull out old one. I believe the sensor is located in the front passenger side of the engine on this particular model.

SOURCE: check engine light air Fuel mixture

When it comes on again let a regular shop scan it for you with a good scanner so they can see whats going on. a generic code reader wont do it. if it is stored in memory they can still check it. if the truck runs good idles fine just watch out for anything out of the norm , what about air filter and fuel filter have they been changed ? tune up ? air filters should be changed every 2 to 3 oil changes and fuel filter every 30k depending on fuel quality there. and tune up at 60 to 70 k even though they probaly said 100k.

SOURCE: The check engine light is on chevy cavalier 2001

The check engine light would record an error code in the computer, you need to get that information in order to know what the next step is.

SOURCE: My check engine light kept coming on and they

Could be a wiring issue, fuel cap got left off, fuel pressure sensor again or loose connection to the sensor and one of the other Evap hoses. Also might try changing the fuel cap. Look at the underside of the fuel cap and if there are cracks in the sealing rubber, replace the cap.

SOURCE: check engine light code came up p2101 throttle

There is either a high or low circuit problem with the motor. The ecm, or called the computor, moniters the cuircuit for the motor.
The best thing to do is have the control motor checked and the ecm. One of them is bad.

Replaced 2 coil packs and still running rough 2003 trailblazer

try replacing or cleaning the injectors
when misfiring moves around it is seldom the coils , plugs and any thing else connected to spark but dirty fuel, low fuel pressure and dirty injectors or injector control
use a quality injector cleaner for a few tankfills

Well lets see...I took my 2002 blazer in for a tune up only (146000 miles) got a call from the mechanic that my belt needed to be change and I had an oil leak which was leaking onto my plugs. Got it back...

Take it to a qualified mechanic!!!!! Whoever you used up to now is a **** and shouldn't be in the auto repair business. The oil leak on the plugs is from a bad valve cover gasket, did they change it?
The diagnosis of the crankshaft being loose is ridiculous, even with 146K miles.

yea your truck is going into limp home mode. this happens when a major sensor like a crank or cam sensor goes bad. you'll definitely want to get it checked out with a scanner to see what the code is. the boys at your local autozone or advance auto parts stores will be able to help you out with a scanner for free. and go from there.

2002 reduced engine power light

You have some kind of ECU problem. You will need to hook to the diagnostic port to find the problem. Your vehicle has gone into limp mode. This enables the vehicle to run, but at a diminished level until you can seek help for the problem. Do not continue to drive it this way as you may cause damage to the engine depending on the nature of the problem.
