I have a 2001 Jimmy v6 4x4 and the transmission pan gasket was leaking. After replacing it and adding the proper amount of fluid i started my truck and now its leaking from both the dip stick seal and where the cooler lines enter the transmission. Any ideas on what would cause these leaks to occur?

I would check the O-ring on the dip stick tube to ensure it was not pinched or damaged during removal/reinstall. If so, you'll need another O-Ring. Be sure to lube it before installation so it slides in place without damage. Just take your dip stick tube to a good auto parts store and size the O-ring properly.

The cooler lines either have mechanical clamps (check to ensure those are tight but do not over-tighten) or are the push lock types. If push lock, check those O-rings too.

I hope this helps.

How did u add the transmission fluid? Did you just fill it to the marking on the stick? If you did, that's wrong.

Engine has to be at operating temperature, then filled to the hot marking. The transmission shift has to be moved through all gears including reverse, at least twice. Then the vehicle should be taken for a ten minute drive..do u have any DTC codes?

If you overfill a transmission, it can have the effects you have... try removing some through the fill tube using a suitable piece of clear plastic tubing...cheers.

SOURCE: Transmission fluid leak

Could be the bolt are loose or were over tightened and crushed the gasket.Could it be leaking from some other spot and running back while you drive? If so it may be the front seal.

SOURCE: Transmission Leak

Tal, The dipstick tube does have a cup seal that is used to seal the tube to the transmission case. They can leak, you would have to remove the bolt on the transmission bell housing, pull the tube up out of the hole and replace the seal.
The plug you refer to is for pressure testing. It is a pipe plug fitting that can be resealed with teflon tape from the hardware store.
Good luck let me know.
PS. make sure the transmission fluid level is not over full.
Regards,

SOURCE: oil pan gasket replacement

It shouldn't be hard on that car as the oil pan is exposed. Unplug the oil plug and drain the oil. Then unbolt the oil pan, clean off the old gasket and replace. Make sure you scrape both the pan and the block clean thoroughly and then bolt back up. Don't forgot to replug the drain plug.

How do i change the transmission oil on my hyundai santa fe 2001 v4

When it comes to changing the tranny fluid there's usually only 2 options. If your pan has a drain plug, remove it same as you would when doing an oil change. If not, you have to remove all the bolts on the pan to drain and replace it.

I have fluid leaking from the bottom of the transmission. Could it be a seal, gasket or do I have to replace the transmission?

What vehicle?
What leaks?

There is no reason to replace anything but the
pan gasket or side case drive axle seals, if you have a front
wheel drive transaxle

You have to get under these vehicles & provide
some info.

They should call this site the Guessing Game Place

Transmission filter how to change it in a 96 Plymouth voyager

raise and secure on stands. loosen transmission pan bolts one at a time, starting back to front. do not completely remove them just yet. have a bucket or pan ready to catch about 1 gallon of fluid.when all are loose gently pry downward on rear of pan to break seal.careful..fluid will come out at this point.one at a time remove rear bolts to allow pan to drop a little at a time.once pan is removed, remove old filter. clean pan and all mating surfaces. make sure there is no oil or grease on gasket surfaces. install new filter and filter gasket(small round rubber gasket).install new gasket and pan. tighten bolts evenly but dont over tighten.refill with clean fluid and check for leaks.make sure to check fluid level after each quart is added. engine should be running to get proper reading.too much or too little can damage your transmission.

How do i drain the transmission fluid on a 2001 daewoo lanos?

Transmission fluid is drained by removing the bottom pan off the transmission. There is no drain plug. If unobstructed by a crossmember, support or the exhaust, you can do this your self. Obtain a filter and gasket set, 1 can of brake cleaner, and 1 gallon of recommended transmission fluid from local parts store. Remove negative battery cable. Raise and support front of vehicle using jack stands or ramps. Set parking brake.

Loosen bolts 3/4 way around pan and put a catch pan beneath trans. pan. Slowly loosen remaining bolts until fluid begins to drain from 1 corner, loosen as it drains until you can remove pan. (its messy no matter how careful you are) Clean pan out well using brake cleaner. Clean outer rim/gasket surface of pan and mating surface of transmission thouroughly as to leave no evidence of old gasket or sealant down to shiny metal. You can use a bit of fine sandpaper or steel wool to help. Do not oversand. Clean all surfaces completely finishing with a wipe off using brake cleaner, make sure pan and trans. mating surfaces are dry and free of fluid. Install new filter in transmission, then gasket and pan as advised by instructions in filter/gasket kit. Re-fill transmission fluid through dipstick hole marked TRANS or TRANS FLUID in engine compartment using a funnel in dipstick tube. Put in about 2 quarts, then start engine in park on level surface. Put in SMALL amounts of fluid , re-checking level continuously until proper level is reached. Drive car 10-20 miles and re-check fluid level again, add accordingly. DO NOT overfill transmission, as seal damage will result. If you overfill, drain small amount off by loosening pan bolts slightly and jacking up one side of vehicle to make gravity force some out. Let us know how you do :)

2001 chevy venture

Get new fluid, pan gasket and filter.

Put vehicle on ramps.

Starting at one corner, use ratchet to loosen and remove bolts from pan. Be sure to have a drain pan directly under the corner that drops to allow fluid to be collected. Do not remove any bolt before loosening all the bolts first, and slowly work from the same corner. You do not want to bend the flange on the pan.

Drop pan out of the way, remove/clean away old gasket, clean up pan, and pan bolts, apply light coating of gasket sealer to flange and apply new gasket.

Remove and replace filter. Check pan mating surfaces on tranny and make sure they are clean.

Reinstall pan into place by starting all bolts before tightening. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN BOLTS OR THE PAN WILL LEAK! Rotate around the pan, tightening each bolt slightly to no more than about 10 ft ponds of torque. A 1/4 inch ratchet is best used for this procedure.

Refill tranny with the amount of fluid removed into the drain pan.

This procedure will not replace any fluid in the torque converter, and generally most vehicles have no way of changing the torque converter fluid.

Gasket replacement

in my opinion if the car is changing gears fine then just fix the gasket and seals when you can if its changing fine then they are trying to rip you off as renewing the seals and gasket will fix your leak and if its slipping gears it could last a day it could last a year so if its slipping yes its important to replace it
