Question about Mitsubishi Lancer

1 Answer

I have a 97 Mitsubishi chariot, when you start it, it makes a horrible squealing noise, seems to stop when you accelerate but as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator its back again. after you've driven about 10ks the noise gets quieter ?????

I am quite sure that the squeal is coming from the A/C pump. When car is at idle and the A/C is turned on. the car struggles for a bit then stalls. also the squeal stops when revs are applied above 3000 rpm. any ideas??

You have a belt slipping check belt tentioners a all pulleys then replace any that are stuck and the belt. That should fix the problem

I would say your A/C compressor might be going bad then. Have you added coolant recently? If so you may have to much in the system causing it to lock the compressor. Does it squeal with the A/C turned off? If yes it's probably the clutch if no go back to the compressor. Hope this helps.

How far can I drive once this warning light has appeared?

If it is the light for brake pads then I'd say replace them as soon as they start making squealing noises. That is if you wish to put it off.
If they make horrible noises then you are doing more damage to other components (rotors) which is much more expensive than the cost of brakes.

2004 Mitsubishi Outlander started squealing loudly when turning right

If it's the sound I'm thinking of you might just need a new belt or a pully. Typically water pump going out sounds like you have a turbo winding up and steering will growl.

Can't find the source of the squeal

Year make and model ??
The belt could be glazed and slipping even if it is tight.
You could have a weak belt tensioner too.
The noise when the ac or heat is turned on can be the extra load from the ac compressor or the alternator. The compressor cycles on and off especially in defrost mode.
The load from the alternator is the first noise of the day. As the belt warms up it becomes better at handling the load of the accessories.
Even tho the belt looks fine, you may have to replace it to get rid of the noise.

Loud Vibration / Sound Under Acceleration And Starting Engine.

Get the engine mounts checked. A bad mount may allow part of the engine to lie on a body or frame part, allowing engine vibrations to become very loud. Torquing of the engine (under load) can cause the same type problems.

Squeal under hood 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT (3.8 L)

I would start with a belt. While removing it feel how much tension the tensioner has on it, on the 3800 egnine they have a stiff tensioner(sorry I don't have any specs for how much) After you get the belt off you can look at all of the pulleys and spin them to see if the bind or look for stuff stuck in the grooves on the pulleys.
It sounds to me like the belt is streched. I would not recommend one of those gator back belts, they seem to make more noise sooner than a good v notch belt. But thats just my opinion!

Everytime i accelerate my car it starts making a squeling noise but when i don't accelerate it stops and then i hit the acceleration again and then again noise starts and i can't seem to find the problem!

Are you sure you don't hear anything like a chirping sound when the engine is idling? Have you popped the hood and listened while the engine was idling? Have a friend sit in the driver's seat while you pop the hood, tell them to press the accelerator and then listen for the squeal. I would bet dollars to donuts the problem is the serpentine belt is worn and needs to be replaced.
