You have a transaxle shift lock on your vehicle which as I'm sure you know the brakes nust be applied in order to shift out of park. The switch could be bad or if your battery is below 9 volts this will happen. Most cars have a spot where you can stick a key or a screwdriver in to bypass it. Guess what? you don't on your vehicle but there is a way to bypass it and it will work about 90 percent of the time. Apply the brake and then try to shift normally. If it won't shift (which is your problem in the first place) ease of on the pressure as far as trying to shift but don't let a go. Push the lever foward GENTLY as if you are putting it in park all the way. Keep the brake pedal pushed in at all times while you are doing this. After you gently "put it back in park" then try to change gears. No jerking motions just nice and smoothly do it. This is the only way it will work unless you get down and do electrical kind of bypassing on the switch which would be very hard for me to explain because I don't have the wire color codes and stuff to give you. I do hope this works and good luck.
