Ignition key will not turn on my 2005 Equinox. Problem started about 10 days ago and getting worse. What is the most likely cause of the problem and how much of a repair bill to replace the ignition. Thanks!

varies if after market or dealer but before doing change use other key or get a new key cut ---ignition cylinder would actually grind down key causing key/starting failure--- but if look on line prices run 20 and up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqLawpYYLZc
classic signs of a completely flat battery. Two people, one inside the car and one in front. Turn the headlights on, turn the key to start. Does the lights dim down to a glow?
check for a big fuse on the Red battery lead. It does have an Ignition fuse.
this is a common problem with the new Chevy ignitions --- sometimes it is the ignition switch and sometimes it is the microchip inside the key itself. your best and cheapest way to get this fixed is to call a automotive locksmith and have them come out to your vehicle and determine if it is the key or the switch,,, either way it will only take 30 minutes to change out the ignition - or 10 minutes to re-program the key to the car. on the low end it will cost you 85 dollars -- on the high end it should not be more then 145 dollars ( this is with the new switch ).
I have a 2005 chevy equinox and when i turn the key, everything comes on when i turn the key but the car will not start however my boyfriend goes under the car ith a screw driver and does something with the cylinoid and some other part and then it starts right up. Would this be an ignition switch issue?
This sounds like the fuel pump pressure check valve is defective, that is the usual cause of this long crank time issue, I am sure if you replace the fuel pump and filter the problem will go away. If you want to verify this issue have a shop run a fuel pressure leak down test, after the key is turned off the fuel press should not drop more than 5 PSI
