Question about 1993 Volkswagen Jetta

2 Answers

I have a Jetta TDI 1993 Model and I have a problem, while driving the I get no response from the accelerator pedal, the car seems to idle but there is no accelerating power. If turn the engine off and on again the accelerator comes back for a short period of time. I sent the car to VW where they told me it was the accelerator pedal itself as it is an electronic devise - they replaced the pedal, but still I have the same problem. While driving I set the cruise control and the car maintains the set speed the minute I disengage the cruise control the accelerator is not working. Sometimes the accelerator works but it seems to be on half power - PLEASE HELP !!

Go back to that VW dealer and complain. I'm sure you payed plenty, and I know in my shop, if a customer's car is not repaired to their satisfaction, I want to know, and make it right. Sometimes parts can be bad right out of the box, and sometimes problems are misdiagnosed. Go back, but don't agree to pay for anything untill you get a satisfactory explanation. Good luck.

Sounds like a clogged intake to me. TDI's like to be driven hard - if you don't wind out your gears on a regular basis the intake can get clogged - causing serious loss of power. You may also have a bad MAF (air flow sensor) but I'd put my money on a clogged intake.

Accelerator Loss

From my experience in owning a VW it souns electrical. Most issues with VWs are electrical related. Most likely a realy of some type. Could also be fuel injection but that is electronic too.

2000 VW Jetta V5 accelerator/idling problem

these cars are fitted with a fly by wire accelerator pedal that is controlled electronically by the cars computer it is possible that there is a computer problem or the throttle body ( air intake system )or accelerator pedal is playing up.
it is highly possible that the car is doing exactly what you say it is i recommend you take it back to VW and demand that they take a proper look at it you might have to leve it with them for a couple of days and get a service advisor to drive it home so as they can see the problem ocure.
regardles the cars computer should of thrown a code declaring a fault in the system witch should give the tecs some were to start looking.

good luck with this problem if you have any outher questions let me no

Jetta has no gas pedal pressure

If this car has a carb, the most common problem is the auto choke mechanism get siezed/ gummed up. Remove tha carb plenum in the morning before starting. Depress the accelerator pedal and check that the flap on top of the carb has closed.
