Sometimes the anti theft security system that came on these cars start to fail and the car can literally turn of the starter and/or injectors. Next time this happens, check to see if there is a light on the dash that says SECURITY. This would be a dead give away of the problem. This link describes security symptoms, and possible DO IT YOURSELF solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
Regarding the 2003 Grand Prix issue, I have a GTP and it started doing the same thing. Another symptom I experienced was that if I went to use the directionals the engine would shut down. I spent a good day tracing wires and checking continuity but found nothing wrong and still not a single code thrown.
What it all boiled down to was an ignition switch that was going bad. Originally I thought it was either the combination switch or my PCM. I did break down and pay for a systems scan which confirmed the ignition switch was the culpret. Well worth the money spent for the scan. There's just some things that you can't do unless you have the correct diagnostic tools.
My other option was to try a part by part replacment of the combo switch ($185.00), then the PCM + Flash ($495.00 and $150.00 respectively) and finally the ignition switch ($94.00). All total, I paid just under $200.00 to get back on the road. I hope this helps you out.
