Sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor replace sensor and reset computer.You can reset computer by pulling the ECM fuse or remove the ground cable off battery for 30 seconds.

It supplies the EFI Main relay, which in turn powers the fuel pump, ignition switch, and starter relay. In addition it powers the ECM computer, so that if you wish to clear a trouble code from there, you pull the EFI fuse for 30 sec. See here p177
have your idle control switch check, easy and inexpensive to replace. The idle control switch is what keep the engine stay idle. also have your throttle body clean by a professional having that many miles, it will give you better gas mileage.
In my personal opinion, electrical current recharging, unattended for a long period of time, backflowing through a circuit not designed for it with the proper fuses and protection, is asking for trouble. Wouldnt it be better to disconnect the battery, and have it fully charged when you get back? The downside is that you will lose radio code and check engine history, but if the check engine light is not on, you havent lost much.
I would check out the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Located on top of the air filter box. If the sensor is bad and computer doesn't see air going into the engine, it will automatically keep the engine from running. Try pulling the engine trouble code to confirm is problem.
Chances are you have an IAC (idle air control) motor problem. If your service engine light is on you can take the car to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and ask them to scan your car for trouble codes. They will do the scan at no charge to you. Write the codes down and respond back.
The IAC may need to be cleaned and is just stuck. I would recommend you have the throttle body cleaned if it has not been done since you've owned the car.
The IAC is located on the side of the throttle body and has a 4 wire connector attached to it. If you decide to do it your self, just remove the IAC motor and clean it with carburetor cleaner and clean the bore out, reinstall the motor.

Switch ig. on, ground the sender unit wire for about 3 seconds see if the temp. gauge moves, if so change sender unit, if not then it is a faulty gauge reader.
