See if your getting spark at the ign. coil first (passengers side on that year) if you are change the crank shaft sensor making sure you mount it as close to the engine as possible so it never gives you trouble again.
Install a new crank shaft sensor. I had the same problem with my wife's Jeep. It would run fine fore days at a time then quit. When the crank sensor goes out their is no spark or injection of fuel into the engine. This is a Hall Sensor. They can be intermittent, and affected bu heat. If your Jeep will not start, try freeing the sensor and see if it starts. Cold Freeze is used in electronics to test
Check the timing to ensure it is correct. Check each cylinder for the proper compression. Try starting the jeep with some starting fluid. If it starts with the starting fluid, you may have a few bad injectors, or faulty injector wiring harness.
Hello, I read this and wondered if anybody changed the fuel filter or checked the fuel pressure at the Injector rail. When you remove the fuel filter you will be able to do a fuel sample.
Also what I wondered about is "What Service areas have your on-board computer diagnosed?" It sounds like the fuel pump Relay is overheating and kicking off.
If it does this again, you said the engine turns over, it would be beneficial to the Mechanic to know if there is spark at the plugs. This would clearly separate the problem between fuel and spark.
The length of time to cool down before Resetting needs closer investigation. I am wondering why it takes a day and not 4 hours to cool off. You need to try it sooner to narrow the time line. I am thinking about fuel separation versus overheated parts. The hottest parts are on the Exhaust and the cool-down rate for Relays and Water temperature sensors just don't equal 8 hours or more. So you can kind of eliminate potentially bad parts by when the vehicle will start again.

Jeeps have a known problem of a crank shaft position sensor going bad. It's a sensor that works off rotation of the crank. to know where and what position it's in. The part is about $55 and it's located by the front of the transmission where it meets the engine block. Very easy to change. I've changed a few on Jeeps and they had the same problem with the Jeep shutting down going down the road. After a few days to 2 weeks it will go completely out and leave you stranded. So I" advise to get it fixed ASAP. "Crank Shaft Position Sensor"
Alpha One is the out drive, what engine do you have? Remove the distributor cap and verify if your ignition is electronic or contact points. Either way, I recommend going with a Pertronix electronic ignition. This module is a simple drop in installation and will eliminate a major portion of your troubleshooting. Pertronix also has a high output coil to accompany their ignition, I recommend you install both as a set. FYI, water in the cylinders is not good. Especially if it sat for 5-6 years rusting the rings and cylinder walls. Was this boat running when it was parked and do you know the history? Nick
At the age of you Jeep I would be looking at a worn ignition switch (The part that turns when you turn the key).They wear out causing a very intermitant connection some times it works and some times it doesn't ,Going over a small bump in the road is often enough to break the connection causing the engine to stop. Start the engine and try gently wiggling the key and see if it dies..... Hope this helps.
The most common cause is usually the crank sensor, but at this point I would not jump to conclusions without testing it as well as all electrical connections pertaining to the ignition system etc anyone can fix a problem by just changing everything but thats not the best way to go!
