2001 Dodge Dakota will not start. Relays labelled do not have an ASD relay labelled. There is an engine relay and a starter relay, tested both and they are fine. What else could it be? How can I test for it?

Question moved to Model category.
Larry gives the perfect answer as always.
ALL FUSES test good, and IMMO lamp reads good?
no engine told at all and is and engine problem. and has gas or diesel engine, omg not the same at all
warm not WORMs, rats eat wires but not worms, LoL.
this failure is called in tech/engineers world
as HOT SOAK FAILURE, most times spark dead.
that stator always works right
the cars starter motor cranks load and fast we all that robust cranking even does 300 rpm .
so is not a start run problem it is a dead silent starter the only clue to me is the jumper wire, wow.
The PCM controls 3 relays
ASD relay and Starter and fuel pump relays.
so if really did hot wire real starter relay them means the PNRDL is bad.
got automatic transmission.????
got what engine.
\USA car, sorry cant guess cars, drivelines ever.
do you have the security system OEM on this car
and the IP cluster lamp same name is NOT HAPPY as the users manual tell you.
got both keys to Ignition car new provide
or lost one if both try them both?
guess #2 automatic trans
does the starter motor spin in P and N
both must work and P fails long before P
so we try both .
the starter relays is controlled by
1 computers, not just one and the PRNDL switch.
I have the schematic here.
PRNDL shows what gear it is ,
wrong selection is made the PRNLD tells first
the PCM, and if PCM is happy
the PCM click (energizes) the Starter relay
the MTIP module contains the relay and can fail too.
if the IMMO fails , it may not crank. or can cuts spark.
if the starter does work the ASD can cut fuel
if the PCM sees any kinds kinds of bad spark.
spark coils dead, CMP dead CKP dead
to prevent fires. it cuts fuel dead.
so does IMMO./
if you scan the PCM it tells you why it cuts those relays. if you had done that.

learn to check all fuse first
then scan it
and if the starter motor fails say it will not crank or the starter motor is silent.
You don't do an ohm check . Hook a test light to battery positive an have someone crank the engine over an touch the point part of test light to the PCM circuit at the relay socket . If the test light light's the PCM is grounding the circuit . Watch this video ! Fuel Pump Electrical Circuits Description and Operation ASD relay chrysler
Unplug the relay. The terminals are labeled on the bottom of the relay. 85 and 86 are the coil, the other 3 are the contacts. 87 NO 87A NC 30 COMMON. If you can't test with tools, just find another, identical relay in the power panel (horn, headlights, starter, etc.) and swap. Try the other thing. If it works, the relay you swapped in works.
Checc your asd relay. Mine was doing same thing and asd relay would open then shut immediately. Turn key to on pos then pull relay when you put it bacc in you will feel it open then close right away. If so your camshaft or crankshaft pos sensors are most likely the issue. Checc fuel line if fuel line shuts down it is your asd I believe most def
P0685 DODGE - Auto Shutdown Relay Control Circuit Failure Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Possible causes
- ASD relay circuit is open or shorted - Failed Auto Shutdown relay - Failed ECM
Tech notes
Check all the ECM fuses, if the fuses are OK try replacing the ASD relay.
P0685 DODGE Description
Short or open in Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay circuit
P0688 DODGE - Auto Shutdown Relay Control Circuit Low
Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Possible causes
- ASD relay circuit is open or shorted - Failed Auto Shutdown relay - Failed ECM
Tech notes
Check all the ECM fuses, if the fuses are OK try replacing the ASD relay.
P0688 DODGE Description
The Front Control Module (FCM) has detected the supply voltage below an acceptable value
No. The Fuel Pump is controlled by the SBEC Controller through the Auto Shutdown Relay (ASD). For testing purposes and using an Enhanced Scan Tool, both ASD and Fuel Pump operation can be easily tested. Also, the Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC) WHEN Ignition Switch is in the RUN position, requires a distributor reference signal or it will de-energize the ASD.
The pump relay should be there also. Check your fuse panel in the truck though.
Fuses, Relays & Circuit Breakers
The fuse panel box is to the right of the glove box with the glove box door opened or beneath the instrument panel (dashboard) on 1989-93 models.
Pull out the fuse panel for access to the blade type fuses
