You mean the transmission fluid should be changed? Yes, every 60k miles or 100km, the transmission fluid should be drained and refilled. Dealership charges probably around US dollars $189.99. If you are talking about having the timing belt changed, then no, the mileage is still low enough and I bet that it is fine. You can pull back the plastic cover on the side of the engine and look at the timing belt yourself. It's actually very quite simple to do. If it looks black and not faded, it should be fine. BUT, if there are tiny cracks in it or the belt itself is starting to shred, CHANGE IT IMMEDIATELY! Hope this helps. Owners manual for Volvos say that the timing belt should be changed every 60k/100km, but Ive had Volvos all growing up and 99% of Volvo Mechanics say that the belts can go at least 100k/160km. My 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD went 128,500 miles and 10 years before my Volvo Mechanic said it was time. It all depends on several different factors, but realistically, you probably will be fine for another 25km at least.
I believe it's every 80k. Just do it if you don't know when it was done last , these are non-tolerence motors and you will do damage to the valves if you break the belt in motion.
good luck on this one the timing belt on Volvo is very important & IMHO I would not attempt this as if it go's or not fitted correctly your talking big bill to repair I had my dealer do mine the kit consists of timing belt , adjuster & jockey wheel, & its advisable depending on mileage to change the water pump also to change the aux belt along with its adjuster & jockey & to check free wheeling pulley if on your model & I believe that Volvo say 108,000 miles or 6 years old whatever comes first for this service hope this helps
Belt, and in the 2006 it's due to be changed at 120000 miles. I wouldn't wait that long in an interference engine though. If it breaks, your engine is often toast when the valves and pistons impact.
The key is to not just replace the belt, but the idler pulley, tensioner pulley and the water pump while you're in there. Some people suggest going the water pump every OTHER belt (and pulley) change, but to me it's cheap insurance to do it every time.
I have a bad feeling. I own a Volvo SW XC70 and I had to change the timing belt because I didn't want to have to buy a new engine. I changed it at around 150K miles. The belt is a composite and is not a chain (metal), so it can stretch, thus giving you "bad" timing and making it impossible to tune. If you have not checked or changed the belt, try it. It really won't cost that much (depending on where you take it. I went to Volvo. Good luck. DON'T DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL YOU ARE SURE.
Do it at 60,000 miles, it is cheaper than a damaged engine-Volvo had different recommendations:
All models - 1999MY: Replacement of timing belt and tensioner every 80,000 miles or 8 years.
1,6/1,8/2,0 - 2000-01MY: Replacement of timing belt and tensioner at the following intervals:
90,000 miles/8 years.
186,000 miles/16 years.
1,9T/2,0T - 2000MY: Replacement of timing belt and tensioner at the following intervals:
66,000 miles/6 years.
138,000 miles/12 years.
210,000 miles/18 years.
2,0T - 2001MY: Replacement of timing belt and tensioner at the following intervals:
90,000 miles/8 years.
186,000 miles/16 years.
All models - 2002MY : Replacement of timing belt and tensioner every 96,000 miles or 8 years.
The previous use and service history of the vehicle must always be taken into account.
timing belt at 105000 miles, transmission service when the car tells you. it will say service trans. side note only have trans serviced at volvo dealer. no one else can rest trans to the new fluid. belive me it really matters
Go to www.FCPgroton.com and enter your make and year, then check under timing components. They sale a few different kits for this job. I would recommend doing the timimg belt, idler pulley, tensioner, water pump at serpentine belt at a minimum. you can check and see if you need to do the cam seals also one of their kits includes all these. I would only do those if they were leaking.
