  • Yea that fan seems like a pain but all you have to do is stabilize it. A strap wrench is ideal but a belt will work too. Use this to stabilize your fan.
  • Now there is a nut on the back. Trick is this is a left handed thread. Right turns to loosen.

You turn the nut to the RIGHT to loosen the bolt. There is no secret. The strap wrench holds the fan steady while you loosen the bolt. The bolt will come loose easy but the fan you will have to work at to get out. Why did you low rate me? I gave you the correct answer.

I'm pretty sure the is gona make it tougher on you. It probably comes off right thread. Meaning loosening to the right. While it was still in the van you had the belt to hold the pulley, then you would use the right wrench & tap it to the right. It acts like an impact tool & the clutch comes right off. Now you need to hold the pulley without damaging it or reinstall the pump & belt to do what I said.

How to remove the clutch fan on a 2004 dodge ram

autozone usually has a fan clutch loaner tool set, however in a pinch a strap wrench can hold the pulley and then you have room to fit a decent size crescent wrench. In a hurry you can use an air hammer on an edge (of the nut) going counterclockwise, they also make a neat tool that does basically the same thing, might take a few tries but you will get it.

Water pump 1996 dodge ram van 318 2500

Before you remove the serp belt, loosen the clutch fan bolts from the water pump. Other wise you will be fighting with them later. Other wise just drain the coolant and remove the pump. I would suggest a new thermostat since the coolant is drained. Make sure the block surface is cleaned of all gasket material and other dirt before installing your new pump. I usually scrape the area with a putty knife and wipe it down with some brake clean on a rag.
