VW Jetta 2001 wolfsburg edition 4 cylinder 1.8 turbo engine is having rough idle. check engine is on and it has a code for O2 sensor. the car drives fine in high speeds. the engine has not shut off only the rpms fall less than 600 hundred and go up to 1000 when the gas pedal is not depressed.

Fuel Air sensor is the most likely cause, but can be other things.

You have a problem with the tempreature sensor, the ECM thinks that the engine is cold. I bet you are useing lots of gas too.

Did all these problems start at the same time, or did you let them accumulate?
I would start by changing the oxygen sensor.

Check the fuse box for a blown fuse.

Changed the timing belt and knocked loose the wires or connections to the sensors on the mass airflow device.

you need to write these down,have someone clear the codes in the car,then go for short ride and recheck which if any code reappears.it's like domino's affect,one sensor can start a chain affect with the others.

you have a O2 sensor problem. You say you replaced the o2 sensor, the one in the front , before the converter? thats bank 1 sensor 1 ...I would not think a O2 would cause misfires????

If your catalytic converter is "below efficiency" or otherwise clogged, you will lose power as you drive and the vehicle heats. The more you drive the vehicle, the worse the problem will become. The exhaust can't escape properly through the catalytic converter, therefore your engine won't run properly. Your issues are related, and if you replace your catalytic converter they should go away.
