  • After your repairs it seems you might have the 4.9 head gasket leak. What happened is GM did not cast the bolt bosses deep enough in the block. So they literally pull up and a head gasket leak occurs and overheats until the repair is conducted. Unfortunately this is a lot of money to repair. around 2002 or 2003 they corrected this. The repair will cost anywhere between $2,500 to $4,000 if the carriage has to come out.

Change thermostat new coolant , no leaks you have a head gasket, Your car is a reverse flow cooling system. This is one of GM biggest blunder they put out. You can try a radiator at least and make sure the cooling fan comes on when its suppose to.But there is no way around this the vehicle is sensitive to overheating and once that happens it over you will need a head gasket

2000 Oldsmobile Alero losing water and running hot.

A worn water pump is the most likely. If the coolant is going down, the water is going somewhere.

The most common reasons an Oldsmobile Alero is overheating are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat. Coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.)

Oldsmobile Alero Overheating - RepairPal

Videos on overheating. You probably have air in the system from when you replaced the thermostat. The coolant system needs 'burping' of air.

I have a 1999 cadillac. deville i have problems with overheating i see no leaks so i bought new themat and radiater a week or two later it start overheating again what's wrong?

Water pump vanes wear down with age. May need a new pump. Other things to look at are a cracked head. The engine will burn the coolant if there is a crack. With the engine cold. remove the radiator cap. Start the engine and let it run long enough for the thermostat to open. Now look at the coolant flow. Is there any bubbles in the coolant as it passes by ? If so then you have a crack in the head.

My 98 deville had a cracked radiator. replaced it. all was fine till a couple weeks ago when it overheated due to coolant leak from purge tank. replaced it. no more leaks but still ran up to 140 w/ air on...

First, you must have a properly installed thermostat that is working correctly. Second, Northstar engines are notorious for air in the cooling system after draining and refilling - keep checking the purge tank level after overheating and after the cooling system cools down. Third, make sure your cooling fans are working correctly (relay, fuse, temperature sensor) - check to make sure both are running when it overheats. If all the above is correct, the problem will probably be blockage in the system (try a flush) or your water pump itself is failing.

Cannot find overheating problem 1997 cadillac deville. we have installed new radiator, fans work fine, new water pump, new thermostat, catalyic converter, new hoses, and we cannot find any leaks. please...

These engines are know for leaking head gaskets. A good quick test for this is fill the coolant tank to the top with the cap off. Start the engine. If the the coolant blows out of the tank, you have a head gasket leak.
