I bought a 2001. It seems the soft top was not working with the switch. I decided to manually bring the top down and manually raise it. It has worked a few times but this time the top seems to be stuck in the compartment. When I pull on it, something seems to be holding it down as it only raises about 6 inches. I am just needing it to be released so I can re-rise it until I can get the module replaced. Any ideas? Thanks! -George

Oh sorry, I forgot the 320 part. It is a Mercedes CLK 320 Cabriolet. In reference to the soft top, it is a convertible. There seems to be a malfunction with the automatic raise and lowering system so I just lowered the top manually as per the instruction manual. I am currently unable to pull the top back out of the compartment. When I pull on the handle, it raises only slightly as if stuck. I am just needing to find out how to release whatever is holding it down so I can manually raise it back and secure it in place to close the top.

ok, thanks. I checked the fluid and it is ok. Replaced a relay on the motor. Im thinking its the control module now. Until I can buy the module, I am still stuck with the top down and cannot pull it out of the compartment manually. Any idea of how I can get it to release in order to just get the top manually back up?

Hi, you question is not clear enough to get an answer. You said you bought a 2001 what? What is the soft top you are also talking about? Please rephrase your question again.

Hi, check to see if the convertible top fluid level is depleted, you may just have to add fluid, also check the fuse to see if that is blown...

If the top worked perfectly and abruptly stopped and you can not hear the motor/pump whirring when you activate the switch, you could have an electrical problem (fuse, if you are lucky).

    It may be the hydraulics...

An electric motor generates hydraulic pressure to activate 4 hydraullic rams to move the roof up and down.

On mine, I could hear the motor/pump running and the roof would start to move then it would stop. If I kept trying, it would eventually go down but the situation worsened. My mechanic found the roof's hydraulic fluid had leaked. He filled it up and it worked fine

You will definitely need to consult the repair manual to learn how to do it...

My soft top is not working, wont go down, when I release the catch the windows go down and when i press the up button to close thr roof the windows close but roof doesnt

No doubt your soft top issue has long been resolved but just in case someone has a similar issue:
I started to open my A4 Soft top externally using the door key method and like an idiot I must have disengaged the key before the soft top was fully down. I was unable to activate the opening or closing of the soft top automatically using either the key or soft top switch inside. I then manually closed the soft top using the users handbook and manual tool supplied. Soft top would still Not open automatically and the soft top alarm would activate. I solved the issue by manually opening the soft top fully and then manually closing the soft top fully. This seemed to have reset whatever had gone askew.

2005 PT convertible top won't raise - can top be manually raised?

Check your manual for the location of the top fuse.
Your car left the factory as a hardtop and was converted to a soft top by a Chrysler authorized company so the top fuse(s) may not be with the other fuses.

Soft top not working

It is never a good idea to unplug your modules with the key on you definitely can damage them. Hope fully your windows are not synchronized. See if the express mode up works. Try holding the button in the first detent and raise window and hold for 5 seconds. next see if the windows work with the 1 touch operation. It is possible that the module you unplugged stores the synch for that feature. The soft top module must know the window position in order to operate. Also there is a sliding cover that must be retracted in your trunk in order to operate top. The switch in the cover has to be depressed to let module know that there is nothing in they way of the top operation. Hopefully I have been helpful.

Clk top will not go back up seems dead..all fuses checked

It is normal for the roll bar to rise when top is down. It seems like the rear valance cover is not secured and the soft op does not understand what position it is in. There is a way to manually close top. it is stated in your owners manual. also I would try to close top with button(assuming your vehicle will start and the battery has good voltage) start car and try to operate top down and try pushing on rear cover also make sure the retractable cover in trunk is extended to compress operation switch

2004 Boxster - Rear Air Dam

There’s a rocker switch near the fuse box under the left side of the driver’s foot well to manually raise it and lower it for cleaning or to show this feature off to a buddy when the car’s in your garage. Good luck

Soft top 97' problem

Open the trunk. Remove the material covering on the left hand side. You will see 2 electric motors(similiar to the ones that wind the windows). One motor open and closes the roof lid the other brings the roof up or down.

These motors can be engaged and disengaged manually.

First check that the motor's are working.

If the motors are working.

Then engage and disengage until they are in sync and open and closes the roof in the correct order.

Please come to me for further assistance.
