it needs a cat converter to enable the ECM to function properly next low fuel pressure can be from EVAP system not venting the tank properly, failing fuel pump or faulty pressure regulator unloading too much fuel and dropping the pressure
at this point I would be looking at the EVAP system , then the pressure regulator
fit a fuel pressure gauge and flow meter in the fuel line if the pressure is low replace the pump,if the flow is low replace the fuel filter, if the fuel pressure is high replace the fuel rail pressure regulator.
Need more information about car. How many miles? Is the problem all the time? Is the car stock or has it been modified with bigger injectors, fuel pump, fuel regulator? If it is modified for more fuel you need to trick the oxygen sensors into reading less fuel.
If the car is stock: Any condition that causes the engine to run lean such as a weak fuel pump, a clogged fuel filter, or a faulty fuel pressure regulator
Any condition that causes the engine to run rich such as a mass air flow sensor, manifold absolute pressure sensor, or a faulty fuel pressure regulator
it sounds like a stuck fuel pressure regulator...stuck open. a fuel injection system is designed to NOT bleed down after shutdown! the fuel pressure gauge you are using, if set up properly, should definitely be above 32psi. or higher for sure constantly until you relieve the system yourself by the valve or removal of line fittings.
Did you check fuel pressure after replacing the pump ? If the regulator fails, it would either not maintain normal pressure, or leak fuel into the vac hose. If the mass airflow meter fails, it won't run and the check engine light would be on. Have you watched the O2 sensor and engine temp sensor on a scanner to see what they are reading ?
Check the fuel pressure, fuel pump (which is inside the fuel tank), fuel pressure solenoid (if fitted) and fuel pressure regulator (if fitted). Check and replace the fuel filter and check the injector flow rates in case you have clogged or faulty injectors.. I would lean towards a fuel supply issue here so look at the fuel filter and fuel pump first..
i hav a 2003 pt cruiser 2.2 crd touring
it wont go over 3000 revs engine light cums on.
error code p0243 i hav replaced wastegate solenoids cleaned egr valve cud it be the mass air flow sensor that has a problem
thanx
yes it does sound like fuel pressure regulater/put a new one on it /they go bad and used is not a good idea /also try unplugging air mass meter if is bosch with it running if its better replace it
