Water pumps are a mojor issue with this engine. They are internal pumps. They have a port to handle leakage from a pump leak, but these ports often plug up due to engine sludge issues with the 2.7l motor, then the coolant finds its way into the oil, and of course cooks the motor!
I wouldn't look lightly at an overheating problem. It likely is something simple, but have it looked at asap. They recommend changing the water pump and timing chain after 150,000 kms, and changing the oil no more than every 5000 kms in this motor.
First and foremost--check the coolant level! Check for leaks, if possible, do a pressure test of the system.
Second--It is possible that one of your cooling fans (electric) is not working. The fans are controlled by temperature. They come on when needed. One of them usually comes on when the A/C system is engaged to pull air thru the AC system coils.
These are the first two steps to check!

Brian
The chances that the waterpump is the problem is slim. A water pump is a simple system, with one moving part. It only goes out when the seal is worn and starts to leak.
I would look closer at the thermostat (1st) and possibly a radiator problem (2nd).
Maybe even a coolant system flush would solve your problem.
I would start with the therm. the the flush and last a radiato replacement.
