Where is the oil dipstick in my 2002 mitsubishi montero sport? There are 2 dipsticks right next to each other. One just says the word ENGINE and is very short. The other is very long.

The one that says engine is for the motor oil,the other is for the transmission.the engine oil will look dark the transmission fluid will look red in colour.

Lack of oil from the sound of it ,When checking the auto oil level start engine put handbrake on hard ,couple of bricks behind the drive wheels then drop into reverse ,now check the oil level on the autobox dipstick .If a modern vehicle with no dip stick then dealer only job to check the level
Take a look at the transmission oil pan. If you see two drain plugs than you have the trans without the dipstick. One of the plugs is actually the drain plug. The other one is the fill plug. More often than not When you go to remove the fill plug the nut on the inside of the pan breaks free from the pan casing the plug to just turn. The norm is to have to replace the pan anytime a service or fill is needed.
If you have the trans with a dipstick than you can add the fluid through the dipstick tub with a small funnel.
To start check the oil and see if it is milky looking on the dipstick if so you have likely crack the head or blown a head gasket and possiblywarped some valves witch would keep it from starting.
Not familiar with montero , but generaly speaking , automatic transmissions are filled , or toped up through the tube where the transmission dipstick is. Hope this helps. Make SURE you use the correct trans fluid , there are several different kinds. The recomended fluid is usualy marked on the dipstick.
The Fill point is the Tranny Dipstick Tube, If you do not have a Dipstick Tube to Check the Tranny Fluid, You will need to get the Tranny Serviced from the Dealership or a Transmission Shop. On most of the Newer Imports they are ALL going with a Non Servicable Transmission that has to go in for Service. I know, It is REALLY Stupid! Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
LOOKING AT THE ENGINE FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK ITS ON THE RIGHT SIDE (DRIVER SIDE) NEXT TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. uSE THE CORRECT FLUID AS MITSU TRANNYS DONT LIKE OTHER TYPES OF LUID. FACTORY FLUID IS MITSUBISHI SP3. CHECK WITH ENGINE RUNNING, TRANS IN NEUTRAL.
