I have a 02 neon it was running fine then went to the store, pute it in park for a minute then pute it in reverse, it started hesitating, tried to give it gas and it died. i started it back up and it runs just fine till i pute it in drive and it did the same thing. so now it runs fine in park and neutral, but if i pute it in gear at all it spits, sputters and dies un less i give it gas and get it up to speed, its fine again but once i slow down to stop again it keeps dooing it. whats your thought

. I would check the shifter cable. If it broke in reverse while you're son was putting it in drive that would cause it to remain in reverse . Being stuck in reverse would also cause it not to start because it's in gear.

hi I assume this is a fuel injection vehicle and if so it sounds a lot like you have a throttle body problem or throttle sensor problem ,have you also checked that the fuel filter is not blocked,remove the fuel filter and blow thru it in the direction of flow and if your cheeks blow up while blowing thru the filter it is blocked or restricted -replace.

It
can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt.
Also get the tranny fluid checked. If it\'s low, then such problems

Try a bigger battery or a battery charger.swap it to give enough power to start the engine. If that doesnt work than try checking the starter solenoid at your local auto store

Have you tried starting the vehicle in neutral?

check power to the reverse shift solinoid

Try reading the codes. Easy to look that up online. Just turn the key from off to the "on" (don't turn over engine) three times and the check engine light will flash. I had this problem and the car (same year) would stall out in reverse. There was a problem with my EGR system (something unplugged) once that was fixed my car ran great!

can u restart the car? if so put it in drive or reverse and the repark it and shut it off normally and try to take the key out then

your coil my be going out not enough spark getting to it. take your coil off and get in checked at an auto part store or dealer.
