Check the engine coolant. If it is low, it needs to be refilled. I would recommend going down to an auto parts store and asking them about a good type of engine coolant and how to install it. I believe most are 50 percent coolant and 50 percent drinkable water. You will need to consider other factors, but this is the one I would look at first. If this is the case, I am very suprised Pepboys did not find this. I would recommend another place where you can take the vehical. Hope this helps! Please feel free to ask any questions if needed.

Overheating 1999 chvey cavalier

My 2001 Cavalier was overheating, as well. We replaced the radiator cap, and this stopped the issue. Pressure wasn't building up to run fluid through the hoses, which you could check visually. Also, if a cap doesn't do the trick, and you've already checked that your radiator is full, you could get a new water pump installed. I bought one at a pepboys and it was around $30. Also, there could be a fan issue. I replaced my fan as well (the radiator cap was the last suggested fix, but it was the cheapest). The fan was about $10? Nothing too expensive in this group of solutions, though.

Engine overheat

Check the coolent in the 97 cavalier it takes the orange coolent not the green stuff. If you do have green coolent in it you will have to flush the radiator a few times before adding the new coolent.

Engine over heated and will not start

Did you have oil in it. depending on the severity of the overheat you may have seized the engine. You also could have a head gasket problem. The cooling system on these little cars can overheat in heavy traffic and going up a hill a little too fast. Solution? If it started and showed white smoke out of the exhaust. Head Gasket. If it won't turn over with the starter it's seized. Both will cost a mint. If you had no oil engine could now be junk.

Cavalier coolant leaking

Try to remove the thermostat and run it without it. If it does not overheat then you just have a defective one if you have replaced it. Or ou accidentally put it in backwards. It will not hurt anything.
