The reason the system "growls" until the light comes on is that when the light is on, the system has determined there is a problem and disabled the system. The "growling" is the pump running. You can get a scanner that is able to access and scan the ABS module. This will give you a place to start.
You poor thing ,dont you you realise its one of them american thingys where the brake light is also the indicator ,totally illegal here in europe where it has to be a amber indicator light anyway the fault lies for sure in the fancy stop light switch ,my best advice would be to buy rear europeon rear lights and have them fitted and that monstosity of a stop light switch with all the relevant horrors of the wiring discarded in favour of a simplier system
Don't think so, I have never heard of a relay in a brake light circuit.
Sometimes there are two brake light switches on the brake pedal, one is for the cruise control. Are you sure you don't have another switch on the pedal? If that is the brake light switch, I don't know how the lights could stay on if the switch is removed. Does it have a button that needs depressing? If the button is held in on a brake light switch, it should stop the lights from coming on...?
the problem is the switch,its located at the back of the brake pedal.get a old rag and wrap it around the pedal and i mean the whole pedal,then get a can of spray oil and spray a little onto the switch.sometimes the button sticks and the oil will realise it,if this fails then replace the switch.please rate this answer.adrian,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Follow brake pedal arm up under dash, it should be there and arm pushes against it when pedal released. Not too bad to do, just getting there is the fun part.
First of all, you should'nt do this unless you know what the problem is.. or what tripped it. I had this problem when my husband and I were replacing a head unit and disconnected the old head unit, a/c and other stuff then turn the car on. This made the light flash. The first time we took it in and got charged $50 to reset it. The second time we did this procedure and it worked.
ECU Resetting Procedures
Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON. A stop watch or an analog clock with a second’s needle will be useful.
Reset Check Engine Light Procedures
1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds. 2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds. 2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD). 2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal. 3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking. 4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking) 5. Wait about 10 seconds. 6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds. 7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink). 8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.
If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.
