2004 ford f150 supercrew. open door, dome light comes on, close door dome light stay on. turn ignition with all doors closed start motor. door ajar displayed in dash till I drive then goes off. stop truck turn off truck dome light back on. open door, dome on and radio stay on. 20 min. later everything off till next start up.

Chances are this is a case of a dirty door ajar switch, which is part of of the door latch.

The way to check ( fix ) this is to spray down the latch liberally and close open the door a few times.

It might take 2 or 3 cycles of this to get the door ajar switch to start working again.

There is a thread in the electrical forum at F150online that covers this, with pictures of where to spray the WD-40 if it is not clear.

This can be one of 2 things.

1. The door ajar switch ( part of the door latch ) is gummed up and a good spraying of WD-40 can clean it out. Could take several times to cure the issue.

2. There is a bad splice in the driver's side door sills. On the SUperCrew it is usually closer to the c-pillar on the rear door.

The splice is a 3 way splice ( 2 wires to 1 wire ) and covered in something that looks like hockey tape. The splice gets wet, and no longer wrks. You might have to go back further into the harness to find wire that is not discolored if this is the case. Takes quite a bit of time to find the splices, as there are a lot of wires in the door sill.

the door that makes the lamp turn off after you open and close has a bad door ajar switch, try to spray some pb blast in the door latch that might help ease the problem if not replace switch

the interior lamp relay is at fault
replace it soon to save the battery

Is the door ajar light in the cluster illuminated ?

Could be the door ajar switch ( part of the door latch ) is gummed up, and needs to be WD-40 sprayed into it, and close open the doors a few times, and repeat.

The autolock uses the same input, to know to lock the doors when you press the brake pedal while moving.

Don't think you have a door ajar switch problem , more then like the lighting control module is the culprit . Does the door ajar light on the instrument cluster stay lit ?
The interior lighting can be separated into two distinct modes of operation: the courtesy lighting and the demand lighting. The lighting control module (LCM) controls all of the interior lighting in the vehicle, as described in the following text.
The front dome lamps, rear reading lamps, and instrument panel courtesy lamps, can be illuminated either by opening any of the vehicle doors (courtesy lamp function) or by depressing the headlamp switch (demand lamp function).
When any door is open, the door ajar switch grounds an input to the LCM which then sends power to the courtesy lamps. The voltage sent to the courtesy lamps gradually increases from 0 volts to 12 volts within 500 ms (± 50 ms), to achieve the theater lighting effect. When the door(s) are closed the door ajar switch(es) break(s) the ground to the LCM input which then gradually reduces the power from 12 volts to 0 volts within 5 seconds. (± .5 second).
When the headlamp switch is depressed it grounds an input to the LCM which in turn sends 12 volts to the front dome lamps, rear reading lamps, and instrument panel courtesy lamps. When the headlamp switch is depressed a second time, it breaks the ground to the LCM input which then ceases to send power to the front dome lamps, rear reading lamps, and instrument panel courtesy lamps.

The battery saver will disrupt power to the courtesy lamps after 10 minutes, the demand lamps after 30 minutes, and the headlamps after 10 minutes. Turning the ignition switch to the RUN or ACC position will terminate the battery saver feature by disabling the interrupt timers and reinstate power to the lamps.

PINPOINT TEST C: THE COURTESY LAMPS STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY CONDITIONS DETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS C1 CHECK THE SYSTEM OPERATION Open and close each door, making sure that each door is completely closed.

• Are the courtesy lamps still illuminated after the 25 second time-out period?

Yes GO to C2 .

No The system is operating correctly. C2 TEST DOME LAMP SWITCH Depress the dome lamp switch.

• Are the courtesy lamps still illuminated?

Yes DEPRESS the dome lamp switch a second time. GO to C3 .

No The system is operating correctly. C3 CHECK THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE

• Are the courtesy lamps still illuminated?

Yes REPAIR circuit 53 (BK/LB). REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs.

No INSTALL a new LCM. REFER to Section 419-10 . REPEAT the self-test. CLEAR the DTCs.

spray the door latch with WD - 40 on both doors then open and close multiple times. Sometimes they get stuck ond this help if they free up once a month should keep it away

If I am not mistaken, the plunger is located in the door with the latch. Most of the time you can just pull the door panel off and adjust the switch. After opening and closing the door, they get knocked out of adjustment. I sincerely hope that this helped you. Take care and best wishes.

The door adjar switch is sticking. Most of the time you can spray WD40 into the latch assembly in the door and open and close the door a few times and this will unstick it.

This is the problem with door switch on the car , you need to change the door switch in the car..
