  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2009

My mini van 2006 toyota sienna, dome light does not come on when doors open. Check and replace the fuse, dome lights work, but half day later, fuse burnt again. I tried to replace the fuse a few time and same trouble.

Likely failure is either in the dome light bypass button next to the headlight switch on the dash, or failure of the plunger switch located in the door jam. If the dome light is not comming on when any of the doors are openned (passenger, side or rear doors) then I would start with the bypass switch on the dash. Can be checked fairly easily with a multimeter -- after you've managed to remove it from the dash.

All the door switches use the same wiring harness. It's an orange and a white wire. There is a switch on the dash to turn the dome and wheel lights off. If the lights come on with the dimmer, the whole harness is OK, so now check to see if that switch is turned off... or bad

Dome light door switch

These cars are known for this problem, and what I'd do is find a Ford Dealership mechanic's forum and ask there. You could also try calling the dealership part's department, and ask them. I'd bypass the dimmer, which eliminates all costs.

HELP! Interior lights (map and dome) dim but do not go out. Fuse removed.

There is a short between the dome light and the door switches, this can be caused by something as simple as water damage. check all the wires and switches before you think it is the BCM.

2000 chevy monte carlo door latch assy. replacement

all the lights above the dash do not work ?????? DOME light's ??? No light's come on when you open the door or any door ? Wouldn't think all the door ajar switches bad at one time .
Interior Lamps
The interior lamps consists of two groups, lamps that can not be dimmed and lamps that can be dimmed. This first group consists of lamps that may not be dimmed. This Includes those lamps that may be manually turned on by placing the interior lamp switch to the DOME position, or by opening a door or a compartment:
• Auxiliary dome lamp (SEO, RPO 6C7)
• Dome lamp
• instrument panel (I/P) compartment lamp
• Inside rear view mirror lamps
• I/P courtesy lamps
• Reading lamps
• Rear compartment courtesy lamp
• Sunshade vanity mirror lamps
Battery positive voltage is applied at all times to the DIC/RKE fuse and to the switched side of the BATT RUNDOWN PROTECTION relay in the right I/P junction block. The DIC/RKE fuse supplies battery positive voltage to the coil side of the BATT RUNDOWN PROTECTION relay. When the ignition is turned to the ON position, the body control module (BCM) provides a ground to the Inadvertent relay control circuit. This energizes the BATT RUNDOWN PROTECTION relay and applies battery positive voltage to I/P BRP fuse and to the TRK/ROOF/BRP fuse. Battery positive voltage is applied from the I/P BRP fuse to the I/P courtesy lamps, I/P compartment lamp and to the I/P compartment feed circuit to the BCM. Battery positive voltage is also applied from the TRK/ROOF/BRP fuse to the:

If the BCM receives a door lock or unlock input signal, the BCM will activate the BATT RUNDOWN PROTECTION relay, which provides battery positive voltage to all interior courtesy lamps. When any door is opened, the door jam switch contacts close and the BCM receives a door-open input signal. The BCM then applies a ground to the theater dimming ground control circuit illuminating the courtesy and dome lamps.
After all the doors are closed, the courtesy lamps remain illuminated for approximately 40 seconds. The courtesy lamps will also turn on and remain illuminated for approximately 15 seconds after the ignition key is removed, prior to any door being opened.
When the headlamp switch is placed in the DOME position, the BCM receives a ground signal. The BCM then applies a ground to the theater dimming ground control circuit. This illuminates the dome and roof rail lamps.
The courtesy lamps will normally turn off using the theater dimming feature. The BCM provides a pulse width modulated ground to all courtesy/reading, dome, and inside rear view mirror lamps for the theater dimming feature. The BCM will immediately turn off the courtesy lamps if a door lock command is received with all the doors closed, or if the ignition switch is turned to either the ON or RUN position.
The BCM activates the interior lighting output 15 seconds after receiving the class 2 message "Airbags Deployed" from the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). The interior lamps remain activated for 25 minutes.

The door ajar switch is part of the lock actuator inside the door !

How to turn off inside (dome light) in 1992 buick skylark

The headlight switch will either have a rotory knob that dims and brightens the instrument lights. When the instruments lights are at their brightest, just past that the dome light will come on. Back that off just a bit (you should feel it click). If it has no rotary knob then its in the pull switch that turns the headlights on. Twist that knob counter clockwise.

If that is not the issue then there may be a door jamb switch that needs adjusting.
Open a door and push on the door jamb switch (usually located near the front of the door area by the hinges). If it still does not go off then try another door until you find the one that makes it go off.
Then, with some pliers, grab the button and gently pull out. The button is inside of a sleeve and that sleeve moves in and out of the part that screws into the body. When you close the door it will push the button and sleeve in as far as it needs to go.

then if that is not it there is a wire for the dome light grounding. The interior lights have constant power and it is the ground that opens and closes to turn the light on and off.

My dome lights on my 2008 Buick Enclave do not go on anymore when the car door opens. I tried to push the dome light override button in and out and it doesn't make any difference. They still don't go on....

make sure the dome override switch is depressed. The switch is located just above the rotating knob which dims the interior ligthts. The dome overide switch is located just to left of the steering column.

My sunroof will not open i press the button and nothing happens I checked the fuse and it was ok

if the sunroof makes no attempt to open, and the dome light does not dim when you press the switch, chances are the switch is defective. If the motor is bad, or the roof jammed you should see the dome light dim and blink when you attempt to open it.

Intearior dome lights stay on

sounds like one of the door ajar switches is stuck. buy a can of PB BLASTER at your local parts store and open each door and spray the door latch assembleys really good then close and open each door 10 to 15 times this will usually free up the stuck switch also make sure the switch that turns the dome lamp on is off . its the switch that dims and brightens the lights in the speedometer area. its located beside the headlamp switch
