Gas leaking from on top of the tank

You probably will need to remove it. If there is rust on top of the tank, it may be perforated. See if you can get a cellphone camera up above it to take a picture. Also check under the seat for an inspection cover. Some people just cut an inspection hole.

google youtube and find out if there is a video pertaining to changing your fuel pump..U might be able to access it from under the back seat or from in the trunk...there for u wont have to drop the tank..sounds like a bad fuel hose from tank to fuel filter via Engine

There are two hoses running from the filler neck. Either of them could be leaking from the top. There is also a seal on the top of the tank where the fuel pump is that can leak. If your car leaks the whole time you are putting fuel in, I would suspect the hoses. If it only leaks when you get it full, then check the seal on the top of the tank. The top of the tank can be seen without dropping the tank. Remove your back seat and you will see a cover over the fuel pump. Remove that cover and you can see the top of the tank.

Remove the back seat cushion, the bottom one, and the fuel pump is right there underneath. It has a panel that covers the fuel pump which youll see after you remove the back seat. Remove the panel and you will see whats leaking. Most likely either the fuel inlet, outlet or return line is leaking.

But if something is leaking you will definitely see it.

Sounds like your fuel lines are leaking, These are located on top of the fuel tank, There is 4 lines that come from the pump . One may have rubbed a hole in the return line and getting fumes inside the auto.If so these have to be replaced by removing fuel tank and removing fuel lines. Good luck to you.

IT MIGHT HAVE COME FROM THE FILLER TUBE TO THE GAS TANK! OR POSSIBLY ONE OF THE FUEL LINES ATTACHED TO THE TOP OF THE TANK! ON A NEWER CAR, YOU CAN ACCESS THE FUEL PUMP INLET FROM UNDER THE BACK SEAT! DEFINATELY CHECK THIS OUT, AS IT CAN CAUSE A FIRE, AND YOU COULD GET HURT!

Check and see if you have any gas on the ground after you park your car. Check around the gas tank and gas cap. It's possible that the fuel pump (which is in the gas tank) has hoses that may be leaking. If this is a slight leak, it might only manifest itself via a gas odor into the trunk or passenger compartment. It might be a good idea to put the car on a hoist and follow the fuel lines from the engine to the fuel tank. There should a one line that takes the fuel from the fuel tank to the engine and another that brings back the excess. There should also be another line coming out of the fuel tank that is for venting. Unfortunately, the fuel pump and hose connections are not easily accessible and require either removing the gas tank or cutting a hole in the trunk to access it. You should definitely take care of this soon as leaks don't get better, only worse and it is a potential fire hazard. Good luck!

This sounds like you have a leak at the fuel pump and sender unit, either in the unit mount or in a fuel line. Check under your back seat for an access panel if you have one then remove it and look at the pump and sender mount to see what is leaking, you may have to start the engine to get it to leak as it may only leak under pressure, hope this helps, let me know

if the gas is leaking from the top of the tank, 10 to 1 it's either the fuel line, or the top part of the sending unit which is probably made of plastic, is cracked where the fuel line connects to.The tank should be empty or near it, easier to drop, loosen the tank strap bolts towards the front, then remove the rear ones one at a time, as you take the last rear bolt out, the tank should drop a little. Becarful of the wire connection and fuel line, drop it slowly enough to reach in and disconnect them.If the unit has a plastic hose connection, it needs replacing. good luck.
