Issues with turn signal in my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. Hazard lights and right/left turn signal emit a very loud buzzing, then gets stuck. It does not work most of the time, or when it does, it buzzes quite loudly and is very annoying. What can be done to repair this? Also, cruise control button is not working. I can get it to work if I continually push on it, but it will not stay down.

Sounds like you have a bad multi-function switch or signal switch they are the same thing. This will fix the cruise control but, your other problem is your hazard warning switch replace it to.This will fix both of your problems.P.S you can get both of these from www.rockauto.com for less than $60.00.

The turn signal does not work sometimes. Could this be caused by a bad switch or something in the steering column?

If you have a bad bulb, the signal will flash fast on the side that has the bad bulb.
If you have no turn signals or hazard lights, you probably have a bad turn signal/flasher relay
Less commonly you could have a turn signal switch or steering column issue, but I'm thinking its the turn signal relay...they are usually plugged right into the cars fuse box and pretty easy to replace.

2003 Oldsmobile Alero Flasher fuse

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, Its located behind the hazard button to the right of the speedo cluster. If you have a clicking noise as if your turn signal was on or hazard buttons pressed. Its not your flasher problem. I had to tear apart half the dash and found out that was not problem. Its the turn signal/ wiper switch located on top the steering column. Its very easy to change. The top piece above the turn lever and wiper lever just snaps out. One torx screw holds it in. Unscrew then lift up there are a few wire plugs in the back. Lift up on the wire tabs and pull plugs out. Reverse order to replace with new part that I bought from Napa auto parts for around $150. You can do this if you have very novice skills and 1 torx bit tool. If can help in any other way, just let me know and good luck.....YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Flash signal

Hi,

To my knowledge the turn signal flasher for a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero is part of the Hazard Flashing switch. It is actually a 4 way flasher unit in one assembly.

Additionally, there was a recall order for 1999-2002 Alero models due to electrical issues which includes signal lights. You can try calling Oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537. The Ref. No. is 04098A issued Jan. 11, 2006. Accordingly, the repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. The special policy covers warranty repair (for such problems) for a period of 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
