The trim panel around the radio / HVAC controls needs to be removed to get to the screws.

To remove the trim panel, open the ash tray and pull on each lower corner. There are 3 spring clips on each side holding the trim in place. The 1st time you do this, they are a bit hard to pull out.

The black circles in this picture are where the spring clips are

If you can just hang the panel to the side or have someone hold it, you can get to the 2 screws on the top of the ashtray assembly ( there are just above the black sides of the ash tray in the picture above ). The ash tray is pulled out and down, it is farther in the dash than it looks. Once out, you can take a look at the springs on the side / back that hold it in, to see if they broke off or fell off.

Just done this on my truck. The spring is held by 2 spots of plastic melted through 2 holes in the spring. I drilled small holes in the melted spots and installed small screws, there forever. Not knowing better I removed the whole assemebly. After getting it out and looking closely, I think all you have to do is pull ashtray out till it locks open. Look along the flat part on top from the middle out, there is 2 tabs to push down and holding outward pressure on ashtray it will slide out. You need to do one tab at a time so the pulling will be to the side you are pushing down on that tab. This is on a 02 F-150. need any more help, E-mail is [email protected]. Hope this saves you more time than it took me

SOURCE: Coins are lodged behind the ashtray of my 2001

There should be a tiny tab at the back of the ashtray that you'll need to pry away from the dash and the ashtray should pop out

It sounds like the spring mechanism on the tray is either bent or broken. You can try removing the tray and bending the spring steel to increase the friction or you may have to purchase new or used ash trays.

How do I remove the console ashtray from a 2007 Buick Lucerne

There is a panel right below the ashtray itself. That needs to be removed first. Once that is off, there are 4 screws going up at an angle that hold in the ashtray assembly.

How to repair a ashtray in a 2004 Ford F-150 Crew Cab Lariat

This is more than likely because of a small pin that has fell out of the tracking device that allows the ashtray to spring open and then stay closed when you push it again.

Take a small ridge plastic tool to wedge the wood like trim off from around the stereo, and air conditioner controls. There are 6 clips, 3 on each side. Don't disconnect anything. It not necessary. Two small screws hold the ashtray in place remove these and remove the ashtray from the dash. Look down inside the inner console to see if you can find the small pin that is missing. Good luck with that. I couldn't find mine. Examine the open/close mechanism and see if you can find some that will work lying around the house. I had to make mine. I used a small stainless steel Allen bolt. Cut it to length, filed it down so the point would track through the open/close maze, gave it test run, hot glued into place, and reinstalled. Works like a champ.

Oh oh and just in case you are wondering, Ford doesn't make parts for parts.

2005 Lincoln LS V6 Ash Tray stays open, wont close

Pop out the ashtray. Remove the ashtray assembly (the housing). if you flip the ashtray over and look at the bottom you can see a small spot where a piece of plastic has broken off (this should be obvious). In the ashtray housing there is the latch mechanism with the broken "nipple" probably stuck inside of the mechanism. Get the plastic piece out and discard it. Reinstall the housing only.

Now, get a TINY ( I mean really small, like 4mm long and maybe 1/4-1/2mm diameter) screw handy. Drill a slightly smaller hole right through the ashtray where the piece of plastic was before it broke off. screw in the screw from the TOP of the ashtray so it only pokes out of the bottom 1.5 MMor so. Put the ashtray in. If it still doesn't "catch" screw the screw in a little further so it sticks out the bottom a little more. If it binds you've ******* the screw in too far so back it off. You get the drift.

This takes about 30 minutes. It's hard to explain but once you look at the bottom of the ashtray you'll understand the concept. Hope this helps somebody out there.

My interior lights stay on even with the doors closed and the dome override button won't turn them off either

This is a short on the dome lamp assembly. It is possible that the ground wire from the dome to switches is short.
remove assembly and check.

How do i change the ashtray light?

Remove the ashtray and look for the screws that attach the ashtray bracket to the dash. Remove the ashtray bracket. The light fixture has a metal clip that you can squeeze to release the fixture from the ashtray bracket. (Sometimes it is easier to pry or push the clip gently sideways with a small screwdriver.) Replace the bulb and re-assemble.

Crossfire, ashtray

Remove the cover on the center console. This is the large bezel that covers the center section of the dash. Radio must be removed first to expose 2 screws that secure it in place. It hooks at the top. Be carefull with the connectors for the console switch group.

Remove the 4 screws attaching the ashtray to the center console.

Press the ashtray housing over to the left and then remove it toward the right.

Disconnect the ashtray harness connector for the courtesy light.
