I bought a 2000 dodge ram 1500 5.9 it will not shift out of frist i bought a new computer and it didnt work i also bought a new kick down cable it didnt work it kinda acts like the altanater is only chargeing if the truck is not moveing i got it check and they said it was good so what could be the deal please help

It isn't specified. There is more than one fuse that covers transmission. You would need an auto electrician or a transmission expert to connect a pro grade scan tool computer and diagnose if the switch or solenoid is faulty. A scan tool at this level is bi-directional and can command solenoids to operate and confirm that they do.

I would recommend a new filter. When replacing fluid make sure you use dodge tranny fluid. I thought the trans was completely out on my dodge. I flushed the trans and put in a new filter and fluid. Could tell it didn't have as much power, but was still able to pull my boat.

There are many things to consider with an automatic. Check that you have installed the kick down cable and spring correctly. If the kickdown is stuck or the spring is holding it in the wrong direction this will cause your problem. Insure your 8 pin plug is seated properly into into the sillinoid connector. Also check and see if any transmission codes have been set. Hope this helps.

on some of the older (1996-2000) Ram products, the transmission kick-down linkage crosses the throttle cable assembly. if someone has worked on that, it may be rubbing each other when you shift, causing the "bump" in RPM's.
