Have a cylinder leak down test run on it to see if it has compression issues. Cylinder leak test is better than straight compression test because it shows you if it is rings or valves on which valves it is. The knocking could be a lifter and it may only be annoying but if you ran it out of oil once, all bets are off and it is only a matter of time before the whole engine dies a horrible *****
Sounds like the shells int the bottom end

As I mentioned, I pulled the MAF sensor and cleaned it with brake fluid, reset the codes and ran well and still running well, except the check engine light came on in 30 days, not immediately. It was only running the car at 75 mph did the light re-occur. I can't believe it would be the oxygen sensor...wouldn't a problem show up immediately with the check engine light? And have you heard of any problem with oil burning in 2000 prizms? Tks. Rex

Vacuume Leaks can cause this problems. you have to do a through check of vacuum hoses and the EGR valve. Your best bet can be to have your vehicle scanned at an autozone store and get a code. The EGR has to be closed at idle, then as the engine warms up or is accelerated, the EGR opens. That is if your car does not have an electronic EGR . The electronic EGRs do not use vacuum to operate. They are controlled by the PCM (power train control Module).

Could be a short in the wiring for the O2 sensor. I currently have the same issue only my car finally threw a code after two days of it acting up. Code 106. Changed the MAP sensor and it now throws 108, MAP sensor high voltage circuit. Ah the joys of cold weather and broke down vehicles. But I know that you wont always get a code with a short. Let me know if you fixed the problem.

The P0420 code is a Catalytic converter efficiency code check the compression.Swap the #1 injector to a different location to see if the code follows.Test the coilpak. A cracked exhaust manifold is the most likely cause p0171 and 0174 Induction air leaks, vacuum or some kind fuel restriction, weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter etc.You also could have an exhaust leak near the upstream o2 sensor. If youtake it in they will probably use smoke to find out where the leak is.
