Hello, You may just need to have fresh fluid and have the internal filter cleaned or replaced. There can also be a problem with the Cold start sequence for the engine. The Cold start sequence keeps the engine idle higher for a short time like the old choke system.
If your idle is slower when cold, it will take longer for the fluid to move to where it needs to be. The hesitation and hard shift can be the fluid trying to flow when it is thick. Yet the hesitation is also the thing carbureted engines would do when the choke was not working.
The other thing you can do is have the Electronics analyzed to see if the shift solenoids in the transmission are working properly, but this will take a Dealer or better transmission shop to have the tools and do the testing. Your cheapest route is fresh fluid and a clean filter and go from there.
I hope my solution is very helpful to you.
