2001 honda civic lx - car slipped out of drive and would not accelerate in drive. shifted to lower gear (D3) and it ran fine. next day and ever since it has ran fine in Drive. Check engine light is on with P0730 or p0750 error code. " Gear ration Incorrect" is what the code says. I ould guess it is something with the Transmission since the check engine light came on immediately when the car would not go in drive. What needs to be checked first?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. I would advise you to have your transmission checked as soon as you can. You might need to check your fluid and change your transmission filter first to see if that helps. But, more then likely, your transmission will need worked on since it slipped. That may be just the beginning.

It's likely that a head gasket is blown, causing fluid to go out of the exhaust pipe especially if you see none on the ground. You might smell a 'sweet' antifreeze/water smell out of the pipe at idle.

2003 honda civic you drive on the street with D or

Drive the vehicle in "D". The D selection is the overdrive. You can consider the overdrive as a fourth gear. The D3 is simply third gear, and if driven in D3, the transmission will never shift into overdrive when needed.

1998 honda civic lx 1.6 automatic

Sounds about right. There shouldn't be that much movement from the transmission and motor when shifting gears. Have someone turn the car on and shift gears, then watch the tranny and motor and see how much it moves, it should not move that much or any at all, and if it does, check the mounts to see which ones are bad. PLEASE---Don't stand in front of the car when performing this test, for your safety.

Shifting problem

sounds like it may be either a converter problem or u got some bad clutches in third in the case you need to go to a tranny shop.
