STOP the engine immediately !!! There is an oil pump failure of 2.0 TDI engines !
Remove the oil pan and the oil pump & balancer shafts assembly.

oil warning light on saying - tdisline_448.jpg
Either the shaft driving the pump from the balance shaft rounds off or the balance shaft drive gears eat themselves.
The same issue ... low oil pressure warning light, noisy rattling engine, and the turbo has gone. Diagnosis: oil pump balancer shaft assembly ...

Many Passat show excess chain noise and wear anywhere from 50,000-100,000+ miles. Cars have broken the chains/tensioner as low as 65,000 miles. This is just a range of cars that have been reported, diagnosed, and repaired. The actual statistics on dealer repairs or failures is unknown and I've heard cars over 100,000 miles that, in my opinion as a non mechanic (most mechanics wouldn't recognize this sound and problem either), aren't noisy. From what has been reported, noticeable noise/chain-tensioner wear/greater risk of breaking is around 60,000-150,000 miles. Your case may vary. The most obvious symptom is a rattling loose noise from the oil pan. Unless you listen to a Passat TDI with a tight chain and one with a loose chain, it's hard to describe the difference other than rattling chain noise.
The reason the gear drive oil pump modification was started is because a few mechanics who specialize in TDI have seen many worn oil pump chains/sprockets/tensioners. There will always be a few defective parts that come off the assembly line and all mechanical components like chains wear out sooner or later, but in my opinion, the failure rate is abnormal considering the number of Passat TDI sold versus the number of reported oil pump failures. This does not necessarily mean that every or even most Passat TDI will have this problem, just that the reported failure rate is high enough to consider this part a design failure. Nobody, not even VW-Audi knows the average time between failure for these parts and the percentage of cars that will have thisoil warning light on saying - tdisline_455.jpgey changed this design and if you want to not have this specific failure, the only sure way is to swap to the geared module.

Check engine oil pressure light coming on and causing engine to die. After 5 minutes, no light and no engine trouble.

Yes I would say the oil pressure switch is faulty. The oil pressure gauge uses a different sensor, so if the gauge did not drop but the warning light came on, I would have the warning light switch checked. If the warning light comes on, the fuel pump will stop getting power and you will lose fuel pressure too.

Oil warning light flashing mean?

Normally, if you get a oil warning light signal (flashing) could be a few things related to it. Number one, you are low on oil. Check your oil level and make sure it is at full level. Number two, is possibly oil filter is dirty, ( time for service, oil change) or problem with oil pump or oil pump pressure. BUT I would first start with checking oil level and then maybe a oil change.

I have 55,688 miles on my 2003 CTS. The low oil pressure/stop engin warning light comes on after I have been driving for 20 minutes or so only when car is idling at stop signs. The oil registers full and...

The oil pump could be bad, or going bad. Oil pressure is effected by wear on the crankshaft main bearings and camshaft/s bearings. If those bearings are bad, that would make it lose oil pressure, but I wouldn't think it's time for a new motor at that mileage!!! I would find out what the actual oil pressure is, using a "wet gauge" or oil pressure gauge. The oil pressure sending could also be bad, giving false readings.

The Warning Light Comes on "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure" what does this mean

car needs oil pressure or bearings will wear out in short time. Do not drive or start engine with this light on. Might only be pressure sending unit. Can replace sending unit and start briefly to see if problem resolves. If light still stays on, shut off engine and have oil pump replaced.

2000 Ford F-150. The oil temp warning light came on and the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero. While accelerating, the pressure gauge goes back to normal and the warning light goes out. No drivability...

Make sure the oil level is correct. If the engine bearings are getting worn, the oil pump is worn or it's screen plugged, that can cause low-RPM weak oil pressure. Try running with 'high mileage' oil at your next oil change and always replace the filter. At some point, you may need to consider overhauling or replacing the engine. Good luck!

Passat 2006 2.0 tdi 140 engine won't start dash warning says either "engine fault, garage" or "low oil pressure".

Exhaust pressure sensor a possibility if it has a DPF (diesel particulate filter). Has it had its fuel pump recall, the oil pressure light could be just the constant cranking and running the battery low.

When to car warms up and rpms are at lowest point the oil pressure light comes on. i had the oil changed and the level is full. it does not happen all the time. it only happens when the engine is at...

There are two basic causes. One, that your oil pressure is really too low at idle. You did not state the mileage, but if the vehicle is high-mileage, this is a possibility. The other is the oil pressure sender is bad, and reporting low pressure when it is actually OK. The best way to know for sure is to have a shop test the actual oil pressure using a calibrated gauge. If the vehicle is lower mileage, and you think the pressure is really OK, it may be cheaper for you to just replace the sender as a test(if you are mechanically inclined enough to do it yourself). If the warning light goes out, the old sender was bad.

If replacing the sender does not cure the problem, then you have low oil pressure. This will shorten the life of the engine, so you need to have a mechanic diagnose the problem. Possible causes are: bad oil pump, excessive bearing clearances due to high mileage, oil pump intake blockage due to sludge in the oil pan, stuck pressure relief valve. Unfortunately, none of these problems will be cheap to fix.
