The alternator wiring is the same for both engines.make sure you have power on the large red wire at the alternator and the plug connector is clean and tight for the 2 wire plug for the regulator.it should have a small wire from the battery wire to this 2 wire plug and the brown wire is generally used to put out the light on the dash when its charging.next there is a D shaped hole on the back of the alternator that you can insert a metal cotter pin into until you feel a tab and ground the tab with the cotter pin by touching the pin to the alternator case and the charging system should start to charge.use a volt meter to check the voltage.if it doesn`t charge when you do this or you don`t hear the charging system start to charge then the voltage regulator is not working and needs replacing.

1988 camaro iroc z 350 tune port injected. need to reset timing on the computer. jodie

To set the ignition timing you will need to disconnect the electronic timing control. It is usually a dark brown and black wire located on the passenger side foot well where the carpet meets the firewall. Once the wire is disconnected, loosen the distributor and set the timing with a timing light. If you have an automatic transmission, I think the timing is 6deg BTDC. Tighten the distributor down and connect the ETC wire.

88 camaro

It could be a relay that keeps the fuel pump running when the ignition switch is in the run position. My jeep had this problem, where the pump gets power in the start position but once the key returns to run, the engine shortly stops running because the pressure in the fuel line drops off as it is used by the running engine, it usually died within 3 seconds. my relay was under hood and there were several of the same type in there, I switched the fuel system one with the one for my AC(which only blows hot anyway) Hope this helps...

Misfiring

its going to be in the timing you might check the distributor cap for hairline cracks and make sure there arent any but at this point it sounds like timing is off or going out
