1997 Chevrolet Headlight problem

I have a 1997 Chevrolet S10 and for a long time now my headlights used to flash from high or low beam to daytime running light all by themselves. Now my headlights won't even turn on. All that lights up now is my daytime running lights. When I turn the light switch on my headlights go off completely. I've already changed the daytime running light module and it had no effect. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem of the headlights going from on to daylight driving lights and then to back on. Now the headlights will not come on at all. (All parking/break lights still work so I do not believe it is a fuse.) I heard a clicking noise coming from under the dash that sounded like it was in the area of the glove box. Any idea what I should be looking for when I get under there to investigate?

We had the same exact symptoms right down to the clicking noise under the dash. A friend who is a mechanic provided all the wiring diagrams, etc and when we pulled the dash we found that there was another enclosure behind the dash.....we stopped there.......

....waited a few days, did some research and decided since a replacement headlight switch was about $50.00 the easiest route was to to swap that out hoping it would fix the problem....was also a very easy installation.

Turns out that fixed the problem. Good luck!!!

Did you try removing the DRL fuse to disable the daytime running lights, and double check your bulbs and fuses for the regular headlights? I'm not much of a mechanic but I'll take that fuse box before messing with anything else.

I have a 1997 Chevy s10 I upgraded the headlights to h4 4656 the plug they sent with the headlights have red green and black wires and wires do I splice to the tan wire the light green wire and blue wire...

The black should be the ground, the other two are for low and high beam. Turn on lights and touch the wires to socket wires with low beam on. Then switch to high beam and touch remaining wire. Now if both are wired in and they function properly you all set to connect with crimp connectors. If not reverse the green and blue so high and low beams have the proper connection.

99 S10 high beams work, but low beams don't.

Do you have power in and out of the dimmer switch in the low beam position ?

Have headlight problem 2002 chevy malibu v-6 on the dim side have electria current on both wires to the blub bright beams function normal

if you have power to both headlight plugs for each low and high beam filaments and the ground is good as you say the high beams function normally then you either have bad low beam bulb filaments, poor or dirty connection or you have a daytime running headlight relay on the car and that is the problem with the low beam lights.yes the high beams will work but not low beams if it is the relay.

Car: 2000 Chev Cavalier 4dr 2.2L? 4 cylinder car? My problem is this my low dim lights are very low, my high beams works only when I hold the lever arm ? (Not sure how to explain this?) any ideas what...

First, be sure that the headlights are actually coming on. These cars have daytime running lights that use the headlight bulbs at a lower voltage. If the car is only using the daytime running lights, the tail lights will not be on with the headlights. The multifunction lever always turns on the high beams when you pull on it (it's called 'flash to pass'). Make sure the headlight switch is working, and also check the headlight circuit breaker.

I have a 2003 chevy cavalier. headlight issue

The blinking light is telling you that you have a headlight out, if you look the service light should be coming on when the light stops blinking.
Replace the head light and all should be fine.

Headlights wont work

Well...lets start with the obvious. Check fuses and NEVER piggyback any stereo or security stuff into their fuses...you dont want the lights to shut down during a night drive!!
Check under the hood for a relay center...also has some fuses there as well.

The Daytime Running Lamps are a "straight through wiring configuration". Doubt it even goes through a headlight switch at all.
But the regular lights do.
Unless you've worked on the front of the car and forgot to plug the headlights back in, do this...
Turn the light switch on...looking at the instrument cluster , can you make the high-beam-indicator light come on?
As you rotate the headlight switch knob...does the instrument panel lights brighten or dim? You probably have a faulty headlight switch...auto stores have them...they simply plug in.

!997 Chevrolet S10 headlight problem

ya know it kinda sounds like the headlight switch that switches from high beam to low beam has a bad contact. You don't have one of those 4-beam modules that turn on all 4 lights on high beam do you? that thing screwed my whole headlight system up, I ended up throwing it in the trash.

I have the chiltons and haynes manual, I'm sure between the two we'll find a good diagram. I gotta get my youngin to open house at school, but I'll pull the books out and send you the wiring diagram.
