Brake lights not working when you apply brakes

I noticed tonight on my wifes 2004 Sentra that the brake lights are not working when she applies the brakes. While driving the lights work but dont light up when the brakes are applied. I checked both fuses in the cab and in the engine compartment and they are fine. Is there somewhere else I can look? Is it wiring? Please help. I need to fix it asap.

I have the same problem with my 2004 Sentra. I would like to try your solution, but is it possible for you to be more specific about the location of the brake switch and what it would look like? Also, what do you mean by "try to jumper it across"?

I have the same problem but cannot find the brake switch even after looking under the dash.

Check the brake light switch.
It's usually up under the dash, and it activated by the brake pedal.

There are 2 wires going to it. To test it, jumper across the leads.
or, watch the "action" sometimes you just need to reposition the switch to get it to work.

My brake lights on my nissan sentra 2006, dont work, fuses are good and bulbs are good, how do I remove my brake light sensor behind the brake pedal?

look to find how its fastened in place and what electrical connectors are hooked up to it and how they are fastened to the switch.disconnect the wire connector first noting how you removed it.then disconnect the switch from its mounting again noting how and what you did to remove it then re-install the new one in reverse order.this is all a tech does to do the same job.

Stop lights do not work when brakes are applied on a Nizzan Sentra 2006. fuse is good. Both brake lights do not work.

If bulbs are good disconnect the stop light switch mounted on the brake pedal. Jump the connectors and see if the lights come on. If yes, bad switch. If no, check for power and ground at each wire.

Brake lights wnt wrk when pushing dwn brake, but park lights do

As cadman mention to check the fuse, and if there ok check your brake light switch along the brake peddle arm. Before you doany of that, turn your hazard light on to make sure that all your light's are not burnt out. Good luck

My brakes are locking up on all four wheels on my 04 sentra.

Your brake light switch is adjusted in all the way and is pressing on the brake pedal. This causes the brake to be slightly applied. As you drive the vehicle the brake fluid heats up and expands, the brakes will apply more and more until you see the smoke. Bottom line: your brakes are always applied at the master cylinder because something(usually the brake light switch) is out of adjustment.
