I have a 2000 chevy Tahoe and the 4x4 isn't working properly the switch on the dash says everything goes into four high and four low properly( the lights don't blink they turn solid) but in four high you don't hear anything engage( in four low you can at least hear the transfer case gears change) My back tires just spin and I've even been stuck on flat mud with just my backs spinning in four low. I just replaced the front dif actuator but it didn't do a thing everything is just the same does anybody have any ideas what the problem could be???

Depending on if you have a push button, switch activated, or manual shift type 4x4 system they are generally the same. Transfer in 4x4 high can generally be made at any time that you're not traveling at highway speeds or faster by simply moving/pressing the selector switch/lever/button to the position indicated as 4x4 high. If you are wanting to use 4x4 low this transfer has to be made while the vehicle is stationary, wheels straight, vehicle in neutral and brake depressed. Note that the use of 4x4 low is only recommended for the most extreme driving conditions and should only be operated at low speeds.

there are 2 switches inside of the transfer case. they are screwed into the bottom of the transfer case. you may have an issue with one of them or both. by the way, you dont need to put the truck in neutral to shift the truck into 4x4 high. you can doit while you are moving. try that also. you do need to stop to put it in 4low. but i would be looking into those switches screwed into the transfer case. we/nissan had some issues with those.

Are they vacum operated or you have to lock it in by hand.

Ive seen the motor go bad that turn it to 4 low to 4 high on the transfer case

Sounds like the electronic switch or plunger is going out.
