If the play is side to side, it's most likely the idler arm and maybe the pitman arm. If the play is up and down with the wheels off the ground, I'd check the ball joints for play and then the bearings.

If you can shake your tires, with the igniton locked, it's something in your steering systerm. Not your sway/stablizer bar. On your truck, if I belive what your talking about, if it's on the drivers side, I belive it would be the pitman arm, on passanger, idler arm. Need to see to say for sure though.

I have a 1998 Chevy Tahoe that shake very bad I just had the tires rotated and balanced and changed .the shaking is not coming from the motor isn't coming from under the truck .

One of the wheels you just moved to the front is probably out of balance. (it would be out of balance on the rear, too, but you wouldn't notice it as much there)

1994 chevy silverado front shakes when brake is applied

If you put new rotors you need new brakes as well the other thing to check is the inner and outer tie rods to do that get the front tires off the ground grab the front and back of the tire on the tread have someone look at the inner and outer tie rods as you move the tire back and forth if the tie rod does not move it is wore out you can also look at the sway bar pins and make sure that they are not broken

What are the symptoms of a steering columb going bad?mine shakes at certain speeds

Shaking could be caused by a bad tire, unbalanced tire or problem in the suspension. You can put the front tires on back and back on front. If the shaking stops its related to the tires.
