Ok did you check to see if it's firing, then check for compression, then check your fuel pressure and if the are ok it should start and make sure you have a fully charge battery
The clicking sound indicates that there is insufficient charge reaching the starter motor to turn over the engine. If you have enough charge going into the starter, use a multi-meter to check, test at no load and under load. Then check your terminals on the battery and starter to ensure all are clean and tightened properly.
- Switch on the head lamps for 5 minutes.
- Keeping the head lamps ON, start the engine. If the lights die,
- Check the battery terminals.
- Check battery state of charge.
- Charging system. If the lights still glow sharply,
- Check fuses and relays in under the hood fuse and relay box junction.
- Battery to starter motor cable.
- Battery to engine ground and chassis ground cable.
- Solenoid on starter motor.
- Starter motor.
- Wiring.
-Ignition switch.
Was the engine moderately hot? Did it get engulfed by the water? If yes, this could mean serious damage.
Try charging the cars battery or buying a new one.
Also, does it have a turbo? Because those are NOT supposed to get wet.
Im guessing its the battery make sure all connections are tight .clean and free of acid build up,secondly make sure it is holding a charge and cranks out voltage.Next step check for blown fuses and very important check your fuse-able links and bad link will interrupt power to your dash, check that your getting power to ignition switch I hope this helps if not get back with me will get to the bottom of this
I am having a similar problem on a 2003 Volkswagon Passat 1.8L 4 cylinder manual engine. My batter (after 10 years of service) died about a month ago. When the engine is cold and I start it up the engine (if I do not carefully add gas to rev the engine) will idle at around 200 to 400 RPM and then stall. The problem does not occur after the engine has been going for more than about 90 seconds. No check engine light is on. Ideas anyone?
