If you are referring to the dashboard brake light indicator, then it could possibly mean:
brake fluid in reservoir needs a refill;
any of the brake pads needs replacement (it is preferable to replace all at the same time)
problem with the brake bypass circuitry of an onboard DVD video player (if one is installed).
If you are referring to the rear brake lights, then it can only mean that there is a short in the wiring harness leading to the rear of the car more specifically involving the rear brake light wire and either an always on +12 or an ignition on +12. To my knowledge there is no always on B+12 wire in the rear harness and the only ignition on B+12 would be the one going to the fuel pump.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

for the brake lamp stays on.... try replace all the brake lightbulbs as maybe one of the bulbs is about to blow which resulted in higher resistance.
for door ajar stays on.... check all doors, bonnet switch. either one of them is on close loop.
bought new alternator and battery. This fixed the dash lighting up like a christmas tree. Park brake still stays on. However, there is no lights when driving at night in the dash (unable to see speedo, revs etc) and no light to interior light, original clock or anything. Any suggestions????
In all probability, the brake switch got stuck in the closed position.
One way to test it is by trying to move the shift lever from Park to
Neutral without depressing the brake. If you can do this, then the
switch is damaged. It is very simple and inexpensive to replace.It is
located a few inches above the brake pedal rubber pad.
It sounds like your brake pedal switch is not working right. Are the lights on all the time, or just when you turn ignition off? If the former, it is bad brake switch. If the latter, you likely have a bad ground located somewhere in the wiring harness.
Most vehicles have the switch located on a small plate next to the brake pedal arm. Follow the pedal up the arm and to the firewall. Along the way you should see a plunger style switch that looks like the one that you bought. It might also be found inside or next to the brake booster under the hood.
i have a light on my dash ligting on that says brake lamp what is that ?
