I bought a 1987 2wd kingcab nissan xe for parts for my 1986 4x4 hardbody both has the electronic controlled tbi (f.i.) i decided to put speedodometer w tack in my 86 it had all the connections . lasted about a week now all of sudden i have no illumination in dash or clearance lights but gauges still work. need help ty

You will need to go to either Nissan directly or to an engine electronics specialist retailer for this part. The ECU will also need to be programmed specifically to your vehicle. So this is likely to be an expensive repair.
if the stock pigtail is cut, that sucks! you can always get an adapter harness, even from walmart! plug and play. just splice the new harness into the new radio harness. easy as all connections are color coded. if you talk to a service writer at nissan, you may be able to get a diagram from them.
The starter is located at the rear of the engine (you must go under the truck) where the transmission bell housing bolts to the block of the engine. It will have a large positive battery cable going to it and other smaller wires, if you remove these wires make sure you write down colors and where they bolted up to the starter terminals, this is a common mistake for do it yourselfers.

The EGR valve sticking, loose wires, bad ground connections, dirty connections, fuel pressure dropping out, vacuum leaks, or any combination of several of these at about the same time.
