How to determine which is the 1st plug cable on distributor cap

There should be a notch cut into the distributor body to mark #1. If you can't find it then turn the engine over until your timing marks are lined up.You will need to lift the valve cover to check that as you move past the timing mark or TDC that the exhaust valve starts to open. If not then rotate the engine 180 Degrees and try again.

My 1986 jaguar xj6 has no spark. What can I do?

check distributor, try ark the spark from the distributor to an earth in the engine bay, a bolt or something if still nothing, check the coil running to the distributor and trace the wires to the battery, a multimeter or volt meter would be very handy to see if the curcuits are good. make sure spark plugs and leads are good aswell.

No fire to the spark plugs

you could have a bad distributor cap and rotor.also a bad or open coil.check fuse to ignition system and check for loose wire at ignition coil.

Plug wires to distributor rotor

Hello Macstff ;

1985 jaguar xj6 4.2 L Series 3
Firing Order 1-5-3-6-2-4
# 1 Spark plug at the last cylinder next to the firewall .
# 6 Spark plug at the front of th Engine nearest the fan .

The Rotation of the Rotor within the distributor cap is " Counter Clockwise

The Vacuun Advance Diaghram ( metal ) is more in line with the # 3 Spark plug wire .

Looking from the top near the Passenger side fender . If we know that the Number 3 Plug is more inline with the vacuum advance then moving " clockwise the next plug would be the # 5 and after that would be the # 1 plug

This shold get you on your way providing that nothing else has been tampered with . I hope that this has been helpful to you .
