I have a 1988 Mitsubishi mighty max pick up 5 speed manual trans. Recently a clanking sound has been coming from the bottom of my truck off and on only when I shift. I thought it was the transmission mount so I changed that but still makes clank noise. Also it sound like something tapping the drive shaft and more prominent when the car gets hotter. Has anyone encounterd this yet with their truck? if so what was it?

Basically, remove the old one and fit a new one.:) If the shocks are inside a coil spring, you ay need to use 'spring compressor'. If it's using lef springs, it's very straightforward.

I found this on another website on about adjusting the carb, not sure if this is the cause without knowing more information but give it a shot. should only take you about 10 minutes. "set the lever on the second highest step of the fast idle cam. measure the primary valve to throttle bore clearance, manual trans .031 inch automatic trans .035 inch, if its off, adjust it with the fast idle adjusting screw if you turn the screw clockwise the fast idle rpm increases,if you turn the screw counterclockwise the fast idle rpm decreases." You also may want to recheck the timing to make sure its exact.

Hardly anybody rebuilds carburetors any more. If you can even find a carburetor kit for the thing, there should be an instruction manual included in the rebuild set.

Not without using the chevy transmission (and transfer case if it's a 4WD Mighty Max), Custom Motor Mounts, Custom Transmission Mount, Wiring Modifications, Driveshaft Modifications (either lengthened or shortened, depending on where the transmission or transfer case is located). Possibly shifter hole modifications (if it's a 5-Speed Manual), or Custom Linkage/Linkage Modifications (If it's an Automatic)

Its a sort of engine oil only its SAE 80/120 for manual transmission fluid.................................................sodeep

Engines backfire when timing has slipped. You might need a new timing belt. \

Timing belt goes from Crankshaft on bottom of engine to Camshaft on top of engine. Both have to be synchronized to the correct timing.

Check repair manual or internet for correct timing. You'll probably have to find top dead center on first piston.

I'm assuming you mean the 5-speed manual transmission. You've got to pull the carpet back around the shifter, remove the bezel that holds down the rubber boot, then remove the 10mm (I think) bolts that hold down the shifter ... lift the shifter out and add the transmission oil.
