I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier that reports a #2 cylinder misfire and knock sensor codes. I replaced the plugs today and checked the wires. Just had the distributor replaced two weeks ago. After changing plugs, the truck runs very poorly and i have smoke from under the truck, coming from the exhaust system. ideas?

Compression piston #2 , loan a compression kit from AutoZone and test the compression , if it is under 150 PSI ? you have bad piston rings .
knock sensors sense any play in engine from crank shaft bearings all the way up to piston pins , all have bushings and rods have bearings ,
the other cause is the distributor may not be adjusted properly to time the firing sequence for the plugs in relation to fuel ratio/air mix , the 200 model is mechanical one , and the firing sequence is very important to align exactly with crank timing .
is the smoke dark or white ? if dark ? distributor need correction if white ? piston ring problem .

SOURCE: multiple cylinder misfires

cross the wire, probably the firing order problem.

Did you change the distributor cap, sometimes the distributor cap inside cracked, you won't see it, take off the distributor cap, but you have to remember the wires' order, lightly drop the distributor cap see if you can hear the cracking noise.

Or during the dark night, get a dark place, start your engine, see if there is spark out, fix that, maybe your car will run better.

When I had my Union 76 service station, I have solved several cases like thiat.

I had a big Sun electronic scope from 1973 to 1984, during that time, something I could't ping point where the problem was, therfore I used many experience, maybe I am wrong, but you can try it, I like to try everything.

Hope this ccan help you, good luck.

SOURCE: would a cracked exhaust manifold on a 2002 nissan

yes it could.... check the oil for traces of foaming...that would indicate water leaking via a crack.
Also check for oil in the water reservoir.... sign of cracked head also...

SOURCE: misfire cylinders 1-3 how can I clean them? do I

Hi, As you know that in engine repairs only a well experienced technician can do it because it is the heart of the car. If your engine is misfires than the piston is almosted ceased. Kindly don't hesitate to spend money, it is a very difficult job.
Remember one thing service your car only in a authorised center for a better engine performance and long life.
Thank you.

Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder. scan code is p0300, random misfire

It could be a distributor failure. Have you checked the plugs to see if they are OK? It could be that they're carboned up or otherwise not in good running condition, causing the engine to misfire. Also, there could be damage to a spark plug wire. Take a look at the condition of the plugs and post up with what you see and we'll continue the diagnosis. Make sure that you note which cylinder you pull each plug from, so that you can describe the condition of the plug along with what you see when you remove it.

2000 nissan frontier, started missing engine light came on so we replaced plugs and wires and reset light runs better but still has a little miss... any other suggestions

misfire, has many cause, i have 50 reason list. for get that.
1: bad engine compression, or other major engine issues. mech.
2:bad spark
3: bad fueling. (too much or too little)

it only takes a few tests to find which it is, and in that order.
above assumes, 13.3 to 14.7v at the EFI system at all times running.
and EGR is not leaking.
what does engine light mean.
are you saying the CEL , check (service) engine light glows running? if yes ? why not scan it and report all DTC codes present. P0300 is random misfire. and P0301 is #1 cyl misfire.
as 2 examples.

Engine misfire and knock sensor bank 1 codes on 1999 Nissan frontier 3.3 v6

I would want to see the actual codes, but if it is one or two cylinders you could have a failing injector and it not show up as a trouble code.
If one of the injectors is failing it can have a high resistance and affect the other injectors in that circuit.
The O2 sensors and cat would not affect a power loss in one or two cylinders, and the O2 sensor codes would be present.
The knock sensor only measures vibration, so it was probably ok before you replaced it.
There is a chance the cap is shorting out internally which would be tough to see, and the optic sensor in the bottom of the distributor could be causing problems too. Some of the cylinders may not be firing when you think they are.

My Nissan yesterday started idling terribly and when I was driving it was shaking and vibrating so bad it felt like I was driving with square tires.

I doubt the EVAP problem is causing the rough running. The knock sensor code means the knock sensor noted a severe vibration. The cylinder 4 code could mean the miss has become bad enough to trigger a code for one cylinder.
I would look at the injectors and for a vac leak. And the spark plugs can be firing in air but not inside the cylinders under pressure.

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra with 2 error codes: PO325 and PO303. What needs to be repaired/replaced?

P0325 knock sensor 1 circuit malfunction bank 1 or 1 sensor, the knock sensor should be check/replaced. You can buy Haynes Repair Manuals at Pepboys that will walk you throught the process step by step.
P0303 is a cylinder misfire in cylinder 3 which may mean it could either be the spark plug, coil or the injector.

1996 Nissan Maxima 2.5 V6 Engine Knock sensor The engine runs fine; but it sets off 2 codes knock sensor & ignition. Just this week had the plug wire and knock sensor changed, new. Still the same code...

The knock sensor is a major pain in the a..s to change I would suggest taking it to a reputable shop for a second opinion to see if they realy performed the work. Also with OBD11 (2) diagnostics if you have multiple misfires its not the wires its something else, also if you got a code for a misfire it would be specific as to which cylinder is misfiring. My best guess would be to get your coil checked.

Knock sensor circuit problem

Well, you have another issue besides a knock sensor problem. A knock sensor code WILL NOT illuminate the check engine light. Check for other codes stored in the ECU. I have seen oxygen sensor issues cause knock sensor issues due to inaccurate fuel delivery resulting in engine ping at all times (causing the ECU to think that the knock sensor is bad because it's reporting ping at all times) - but also had codes for one or more O2 sensors.
