The most common oil leak on the m5 and m6 is the vanos high pressure line located on the front of the engine in fact this is the only area in which i have seen a leak on this car in the shop
1) Power steering hose. ALL BMWs have problems with leaking power steering hoses. Usually a bit of a pain to replace because you have to remove several other parts to get access to them.
2) VANOS oil line. This would be good news, relative to most other possible problems.
3) VANOS solenoid. I presume this happens on M6s because it happens on M5s.
4) Valve cover gasket. Generally you smell this before you see a puddle on the floor.
If you take an M6 in to the BMW dealer for ANY reason, you should not expect to get away for less than $2k. It would be good if you can find a good independent BMW specialist, but I mean really good if you are to trust your M6 to him. There are a couple of shops here in Sacramento that are of that level, but most cities are not so fortunate.
