Erg flow insufficient

The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

It is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.

Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
Replace the EGR valve

I have the lowest price avail on the internet for this valve, i have checked, that price is at www.rockauto.com it is $122.00

Chevy 2002 Malibu ERG valve

Symptoms of a bad EGR valve are usually stumbling idle or the engine stalling when the car is warm (normal operating temperature). Find the EGR valve and locate the vacuum line attached to it. Start the engine cold and wait for it to warm up. When the engine starts to stumble, pull off the vacuum line. If the EGR is bad, the engine idle will stabilize and no longer stumble.

Replacement of erg valve on 97 dodge intrepid. Where is valve located and how big a project would it be to replace it or is this something best left to a professional?

erg valves are fairly simple to replace, its located in the rear compartment of the engine, just make sure to check all vacume lines for cracks when replacing.

If you can seem to find it have a pro do it, its cheap.

Locating the erg valve

It is located above the engine, right behind the air intake mainfold. Check beside the air Hose that goes to the engine, there you will find the valve held by two bolts. It looks like a round metallic object connected to several wires.

Erg valve

The EGR valve is located next to the TPS connector. It has two bolts holding it in place. You will need to replace the gasket when you take it off.

The egr valve is located on the driverside of the engine going into the intakemanifold heres a diagram picture the egr valve is located right next to the egr pressure snesor that i circled, go luck and hope this helps having trouble locating the erg - johnjohn2_109.gif
