Sounds like the electric fan is not turning on check connections, fuse and relay. Also check for power at fan motor with Air Conditioner on be careful because turning the switch on to the A/C will make the fan come on,which is how you can test to see if fan works or not.
Well it can be several things start with the basics, check that your antifreeze is full along with your engine oil. Next check that your fan is turning on the radiator. And that there are no obstructions on the face of the radiator like paper or plastic or leaves anything that hinder the flow of air across the radiator. There are several other things that can cause this problem but start with the basics first. After that it might start to cost you money, if the thermostat is stuck closed that can cause you to over heat. If the car ever back fired on you and your timing is off that can cause you to overheat also. And lastly and I hope this isn't wrong but you will have to have a mechanic check it, a blown head gasket can also cause you to overheat and this is a very expensive repair.
I hope this helps you out.
