My 1994 dodge caravan has a slight exhaust smell inside the car while running. any ideas?

1994 Dodge Caravan. The fuel pump will only run when tapped on what could cause this?

It may be the connection to the pump, or the pump is failing mechanically. There are $15 pumps on eBay, but I would dive in with a $35 one.

1994 dodge caravan has bad exhaust smell and sometimes feels like not enough gas getting to motor and will just shuts off

it must be diagnosed with a diagnostic computer; there are a vast number of things which could be the problem and the only way to get an idea of where to look is to know which codes are set.

I've had Caravans for many years and never had that problem however, if there is a cabin filter in the vehicle it is inside the air exchange box and you will have to open it to find the filter. Most likely in the top.

1994 dodge caravan le 3.8 awd shudders when coasting/or maintaining around 42 mph once i go faster shudder stops. also am smelling a faint gas smell at times. any ideas?

Several things could be causing this, I had a caravan and the shuddering I experienced
was due to a worn out front motor mount, (the CV axles had already been replaced)
Mine also had a fuel line leak at the flexible gas line from the tank to the solid line
on the chassis. I would definitely inspect the fuel lines first for any cracking.

Our van has 197,000 on it and we had to replace the O2 Sensor 3 times in the last 50,000 mile, now it again is smelling like bad/hot exhaust and the fuel is not properly burning and using a lot of gas....

My guess would be the vehicle is running very rich, dumping too much fuel. I would check for injectors that are leaking. Does the van have the 3.0L mitsu engine?

Gas Smell

check under hood while it is running to see if there is gasoline dripping anywhere. You need to find it before it catches on fire. Use a bright flashlight and look at the fuel injectors and loser intake manifold as injector o-ring could be leaking. DO NOT use a lighter. Sorry, but I had to stress this. Gasoline does not burn. The fumes burn.

Sounds like you may need to inspect and replace your fuel line from front to rear. no other reason for your problem.

Three things come to mind. You may have an exhaust system leak. Or, the rear hatch is not closing good, or not sealing properly, allowing exhaust fumes to enter the rear compartment. If you drive with the rear windows open, the exhaust fumes will be drawn into the vehicle while the vehicle is moving. Just some ideas on where to look for the source of the fumes. Don't take the problem lightly. The fumes can be deadly, or at the very least, make you ill.
