95 dodge neon overheating

Are you bleeding the air out of the cooling system, you must do that or it will get air pockets and overheat.

Could be waterpump, headgasket, cracked head, no antifreeze in radiator, thermostat stuck closed, alot of things could cause your problem, I would suggest taking it to a mechanic

Sounds like intake is sucking to much air could be a bad gasket, making it idle so fast, and it overheating could be several things, could be no antifreeze in radiator, could be waterpump, could be headgasket, cracked head, stuck closed thermostat, valves need adjustment,alot of things could cause overheating even out of time

If you have no air in the system, cooling fans & water pump are working properly, and you didn't install the thermostat backwards, you could have a head gasket problem. Also, make sure the gauge is reading correctly, and the engine is actually hot & the gauge is not giving you a false reading.
If you installed the thermostat upside down, it will not open to allow coolant to circulate. This 5-10 minute time frame you give points to a water pump or thermostat.

I might need a little more information to accurately diagnose situation but I always like to start with the thermostat.(touch top radiator hose if it is cool with temp reading high its probably thermostat) This device is supposed to open up when the engine reaches operating temp. to allow coolant to flow. If it is stuck it could easily cause the overheating condition you are experiencing. Some more info such as does it only overheat when sitting still or will it overheat when moving down the road. If only when sitting still I would suggest a problem with the cooling fan. If it is a gradual increase while driving based off the age of the vehicle I might suspect a clogged radiator. If this dont help try telling me more about it and I will be happy to provide more insight.

I assume motor tune or other mechanical condition is not causing the problem.
Yes, the thermostat is a common cause of overheating - replace the thermostat.
Also:-
Check operation of the radiator cooling fans is ok.
Check the coolant pressure cap is serviceable & of correct rating,
Ensure cooling system is correctly filled, bleed off any airlocks as necessary,
Ensure radiator hose on suction side of waterpump is not collapsing at engine revs above idle (due softening),
Check radiator cooling core is not blocked internally or externally.
If the motor has been severely overheated, the head gasket could be blown - look for combustion gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir.

1997 Plymouth Neon, have replaced radiator, radiation cap, thermostate and hoses, still run hot. Fans do not seem to come on, where is the temperature sensor on this vehicle?

That is actually a pretty broad problem if you will. If it is overheating and you have coolant, wait til you have a day off, and when you do, pop the hood while it is still cold (sit over night) take the cap off of the radiator, and start the car. You will have to wait for a little while til it gets warm, but watch the coolant throught the top. If you see it flow, you may need a fan, or fan clutch. If there is no flow, then it will be basically isolated to your water pump, or your thermostat. Always replace the thermostat first just because you will need one at some point anyway, and that will tell you if you need a water pump

it could be air lock , very common on those engines, more likley is a slight headgasket leak
