I have a 2006 Ford Taurus. Lately it has been getting harder to start after it warms up. It will turn over and over but won't fire. I will turn the ignition off and turn it to the on position a second and wait for the fuel gauge to register before trying to start it. That usually works but sometimes it takes a third try to do this. Also, I've had another problem. Several times after starting the engine the gauges will flutter with a clicking noise at each flutter whichs will last a few seconds and then the gauges will function properly and the clicking noise stops. When the fluttering and clicking noise stops the information button will reset the mpg and display the fuel remaining to empty. Do you have any suggestions as to what might be causing this type of problem? I am afraid that it soon won't start after doing these actions to make it start.

SOURCE: fluttering when letting off the gas

Ignition timing & carburetor adjustments are 2 of most likely culprits here. I would recommend a tune-up at a garage that has someone on staff that still knows carburetors. Too many adjustments to describe, unless you are experienced at them.

sound like bad connection on the back of cluster, sometimes if you unplug cluster then reconnect that fixes it, if it doesnt then i would say cluster is going bad, good luck.

I would check the flywheel for missing teeth or looseness. Also check starter itself.

My 1996 ford taurus sho wont start, it will turn over but not start what could be wrong?

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that there's no current flowing that's why it won't fire up. I strongly suggest that you check and replace the coil pack if necessary. If the coil pack is faulty there will be no current to the plugs. One good reason why it won't fire up.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I have a 2006 ford F350 that is hard to start in the morning (cold weather) and blows black smoke when it finally starts. The batteries are less than a year old.

Not knowing your experience with diesel motors,if the glow plugs are not being allowed to cycle it makes starting the motor cold much harder. If it has a block heater package that also helps to plug in. Keeps the coolant warm and in turn keeps the motor warm.

My key to my Taurus is broken perfectly in half. My boyfriend and I keep the medal part of the key in the ignition and the other portion that holds the chip with us to use when we are ready to go some...

I would go with common sense on this one
Get a new key from a ford dealer
Go home and program it,you may not have an
owners manual,so have a tech do that when at the dealer
You will pay $25.00 for the key,so they should at least put it
in the ignition and cycle it on and off,to program

After you get a functioning key (need 2 keys min) you
listen for the trunk noise (most likely the fuel pump running)

Turning over and starting are confusing to most people

If the engine does not move (turn over) then, yes the key
may play a role,if it is tied to the PATS System (security system)

If the engine rotates (cranks) but does not start, you diagnose a
starting issue

That key thing would do me in. I'am like Monk on TV,I would be off for a
new key the instant it broke.

2006 taurus wont start in the cold

How old is your battery? If it is the original 2006 battery now is the time to replace it. A battery needs to be replaced after about 4 winters. Cold weather reduces the battery capacity and makes it harder to start. If you wait the car may not start at all.
