Truck starts but won't stay running

The truck starts when I turn the ignition but then immediately dies like it's not getting fuel but the fuel pump is running. Most times when this happens, if I leave the key in the ignition in the on position for a short time, 5-10 mins., the truck will start. This happens with no relation to weather or weather conditions.

Yeah I know about that!!! Inherited this truck in feb. It has something to do with PASSLOCK on my model. an anti theft device. My father before passing had ignition changed. was told would solve..... well it doesn't happen as often, but when it does it could be min or hour. It does so usally when this little yellow SECURITY light on upper right side of instrument panel decides to do it's own thing. It will just come on driving down the road!!! But if it's blinking when turning over, no go.

You may have a problem with the contacts in the ignition switch (not key part), when you crank the engine a signal is sent to the fuel pump to run, when it starts and you let off the key another set of contacts keeps the pump getting power Through a relay), these are known as crank and run modes.

Dodge 2001 3/4 ton had tiny pin hole on top of transmission pan. Got home from a short drive and the transmission fluid leaked vigourously on the ground. We wanted to get back home, so we have jb welded the hole, put transmission fluid in. The battery was drained because of the light my husband used to help cure the jb weld. We jump started the truck and it would turn over and run but I had to push in on the gas peddle to keep it running. If I take my foot off it dies. I am able to start it back up but I still have to step on gas peddle. What is wrong with our truck?

97 ford ranger 4cyl starts and immediately dies. Has some fuel pressure, but haven't put a pressure gauge on it

If it dies immediately when you remove the starting fluid the issue has to be with fuel delivery.

94 Toyota Camry ignition lock cylinder issues

The problem of the car dying should be unrelated to the worn key and ignition barrel, as the electrical contacts only depend on the key turning, which it does.

The car may have -

- a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake tract. Look for a split in the big flexible coupling after the air cleaner

- insuffiicient fuel pressure. This might be a blocked filter, pinched fuel line (from a rock), failing pump, or a faulty overpressure release valve in the fuel rail. Get a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail and see what it reads.

My 1990 olds cutlass supreme will not stay running it has fuel and has spark. It will start then dies immediately. Any tips has brand new fuel pump

It could still be a fuel problem. The only way to be certain is to put a fuel pressure tester on it. Autozone may rent or loan fuel pressure gauges. Easy to hook up to the shrader valve on the engine fuel rail and test fuel pressure. With key on, pressure must be over 40 psi, 40-44psi is what is called for. If pressure drops below 40 after it starts, then you know it was a fuel problem. Either the fuel filter is clogged, or the pump quits because the oil pressure switch is faulty. That switch is tied into the pump circuit, keeps the pump running after the engine is running.

If fuel pressure stays good, maybe problem is in the ignition system. Have the Ignition Control Module tested, also the crank position sensor.

Engine cranks fine, but will only run 5-6 sec then dies. If you press the gas, it sputters and dies immediately.

Seems like a fuel delivery problem.
May be a bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter or a fuel line problem.

What car make/model? What engine?

When it dies, try to turn ignition off immediately, wait a couple of seconds and turn the key quickly to the crank position (don't wait with the key in ignition-on position so that the fuel pump doesn't try to pump fuel into the fuel lines).
If it hesitates to start or runs significantly shorter before dying, you have pinpointed a problem with the fuel system.

Pls let me know what you find out.
