When was last tune up? Plugs, wires all fluids & filters - especially fuel filter??? I'd start there and run a good fuel system cleaner through it.

  • Anonymous Mar 29, 2011

I've done all that plus cap and rotor. Also opened fuel cap to eliminate plugged fuel tank vent lines. Could it be a leaking injector? Injectors sound crisp.

Could be injectors but they would also act up when cold. If you have access to compressed air, you might try blowing out vent line to fuel tank. Also stop by any good parts store IE: Autozone, Advance, etc..and have them do a fault scan (they do this FREE) see what codes come up.

95 Geo Tracker - Automatic. Starts ok, but when

It needs a fluid change, and filter,in the transmission, also, add a additive called LUBEGUARD from napa auto parts, when you ask for the additive,be sure to get the one for gm,this additive keeps the valve body slick, and moving, this is the problem, your filter, and ,or,the fluid is dirty, and causing hydraulic problems, and valves to stick in the valve body in the transmission.

1991 Geo Tracker only starts with starting fluid.

91 is 8valve TBI injection.
it is flooding.
the starting fluid is more combustible and starts a flooded motor.
kinda like adding dynamite to bbq lighter fluid.
hahah
ok,
try a tune up.
then try holding gas pedal to floor, this is super secret unflood mode and cuts fuel injection.

the issues why its flooding, not starting is normal for that condition.
so its:
1: bad need of tune up
and or
2: leaking injector.

the former you can figure out.
cap/wires/plugs /rotor, filters, there i said it.

or
this car has a viewable fuel injector
one an do 2 things with it.
key on five times , or 5 seconds on, not cranking
and other person looks down throttle body neck
yes, off comes the tube on top.
and makes sure the injectors dont dribble full time, key on.

or
the ECT is bad.

or dash pot is not opening at key on crank.

or
cold start, IAC is clogged.

complex it is,
it will take hard work to check everything.
